Best days to buy and sell on AH

What do you think the best days to buy and sell on the AH are?

I think Tuesdays are the absolute worst due to the maintenance windows.

Wednesdays are a good day to sell and later on in the weekend through Monday a good time buy. Early on the weekends you might get some better prices selling from people logging on and wanting mats, but over the weekend more people are posting the stuff they have farmed and the prices drop.

What is your experience?

Varies from server to server. Raids reset on Tuesday. My guess is Tuesday afternoon/evening would be THE day for raid consumables and and mats used by those consumables.

EDIT: should've clarified, I meant selling, not buying.

I find that buying materials is usually best about Thursday, or later on the weekends. Selling crafted goods the best time seems to be Tuesday night, and then Friday night/Saturday morning.

After maintenance, raiders want their crafted goods for the raid reset. Most of the materials have been cleared out by the crafters, so the first wave of new mats on tuesdays is usaully high priced. Those prices come down by about Thursday as more people post. As the weekend approaches, the casuals and weekend raiders log on Friday night/Saturday morning and want their crafted goods, driving prices up. By Sunday, the casuals start posting all the mats that they farmed, driving materila prices back down. And then the cycle starts again.

These are all just general observations, of course, YMMV.

I'd say Mondays and Tuesdays are the highest prices for raid consumables (i.e flasks / foods / elixirs) whereas Tues., Wed., and Thu. have the highest prices for item modification mats (enchanting / Arctic furs / gems) because that is when most people raid and get their new gear.

From a sellers standpoint, I make sure to put up the majority of my inventory on Tuesday for 48 hours and relist anything that didn't sell on Friday afternoon right after all the kiddies have posted their auctions.

^^. For old things, like enchanting mats from BC and such, selling those on the weekends seems to net the highest profit for me. Last weekend I placed 500+ prismatic shards on the AH. Sold 300 of them.

Exactly Tirael. I loved grinding Undead Stratholme on my paladin, and I did it for multiple reasons:

1) for Argent Dawn rep.

2) That chance of the mount dropping.

and mostly 3) You can get an absurd amount of Large Brilliant Shards, which the market for on my server had all but evaporated.

After I took note of that and blew through Strat 50 times (it takes about 10-15 minutes a run as a ret pally) I had hundreds of shards and listed them all for 23.50. All of them sold within 24 hours.

There will always be market fluctuations throughout the week, but finding demand and then providing supply will always net you with the largest gains.

I buy stuff cheap over the weekend and list it at overpriced rates on Tuesday. For instance, I bought 260 Abyss Crystals for 40g each last weekend. I listed all of them up at 54g last Tuesday, and I sold every single crystal at that price because the demand is so high on this server on Tuesday/Wednesday. Same thing with the epic red gems, I buy them and have them cut to 20 strength/AP/agi/etc, and turn a 40-45g profit per gem usually.

I turn a pretty hefty profit for an hour or two of AH whoring each week. It's a big gamble though, if someone catches on, they can really hurt your market.

Have you found that posting a huge amount of something sometimes tends to do more harm than good? I've seen that if I only post five gems at a time, each listed individually, I sell more than if I do 20. It seems when I post 20 enough people post so that I don't sell most of it. Where selling five at a time I can get max price.

These days I'm starting to dump my starting mats, linen cloth being a huge one. I found it sold better in bolts than in cloth, so my tailor got all of it, turned it into bolts and then AH'd it 20 bolts at a time. Starting to run into the same thing with low level herbs. Unfortunately I'm in the zone behind for the herbs I need for potions and inscription.

What do Nightmare Tear's sell for on your server? Some people have them listed at 200+g and Dragon's eye have been selling for ~100g on my server so I try to sell them between 150-175g which is usually the lowest listing by I can't seem to get people to bite. Usually only about 10-12 up at a time.

With a more volatile markets, like gems, in the long run I think you are better off not posting your entire inventory in one sitting. I would continue to list 5-10 at a time, and depending on how fast they sell, I would relist at a slightly higher price. It's no different than the stock market, and unless someone intentionally crashes it (which would be a ridiculous mistake, because epic gems that are out now are going to continue to be the best gems for quite a while.) then you can continually keep selling your 5-10 at a time.

Just remember that everyone has a price they will pay, and most everyone has a price they will not pay. Your job is to find that happy medium.

As for Nightmare Tear's, they go for 170-180g pretty steady, with Dragon's Eye's going from 100-140g. Personally I think Dragon's Eye's are a much broader market because they are required for so many gems and patterns, whereas with a Nightmare Tear people can only use one. However, if you can find Dragon's Eye's fo the low (in my case 80-120g) and flip it into a Tear for the cost of 5 dust (~15g on my server) then it is certainly worth it.

I dunno about best days but I'd have to say a tuesday is good before raid times which is like around 6-10PM server time. That's when everyone is rushing to the AH for pots and flasks.

Put stuff up on a monday night for 24hrs and it should be easily sold by tuesday night.

I noticed that on my realm, the price for flasks was way cheaper on Tuesday nights, seems a bit weird since it's a high demand day, but since the demand is so much, many people undercut their wares so they can sell them.

Like a flask of endless rage was 23g last night, and on the rest of the week is nearing 30g. And I even went later in the night and got some at 22g, it was a furious undercutting war in the AH.. auctioneer listed them as 75% of the regular price

I think Tuesday before the shutdown is the best time to buy. If you find short term items and bid no one else can bid before the timer runs out.

Selling just depends on traffic. The more traffic the higher the chance of selling

Sell epic gems on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Buy uncut gems on the weekends and Monday.

Buy Crusader Orbs on Tuesday and Wednesdays, sell on the weekends. Crusader Orbs go for as low as 500 gold late Tuesday night and the price goes steadily up as the week progresses.
