Blizzard has improved fishing, but when are they going to make it more like the other gathering professions?
I remember the olden days when you had to wait up to 30 seconds per cast and there was no guarantee that you would get anything. Fast forward and now we are down to 20 seconds and always get something, but skilling after 100 or so really slows down, no matter where you fish.
Why can't it be like mining where if you fish in X area if your skill is below you get garbage and no skill point, if you are "in the zone" you have a "green" chance of getting a skill point, if you're low "in the zone" you have a "yellow" chance, and if you're very low "in the zone" you have an "orange" chance? Right now if you can "catch" fish it seems like a 15 to 30% chance to skill, which is way too low, in my opinion.
Fishing is the ONLY skill that I have no toon that has it maxed out. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

| I just went back a few days ago and did fishing, lockpicking, and cooking over the course of three days. Cooking only cost me 644 gold and took about 2-3 hours. Because i had to wait on some hearthing. Fishing on the other hand has taken the majority of the time. I think it should do something passive. Maybe something really small but just for kicks. -- Coffee, Tea, SEGA!!! |

| reply to Kilroy for x time spent casting, you should get skill ups by default i think... i mean, if you stand there for 10 minutes, and cast 10 times... i think for casting for 10 times you should get one point in addition to your skill ups from actual catches.
the numbers could be changed if that is to fast. |

Kilroy Premium,MVM join:2002-11-21 Ann Arbor, MI | You can actually cast about 30 to 40 times in 10 minutes, but when you're only getting 5 to 10 skill points it really drags on. -- When will the people realize that with DRM they aren't purchasing anything? |

| I found I get a much higher rate of return on my skill ups if i am fishing in a zone that I am qualified for. If my fishing skill is 200 and I slap on a +75 bauble then I find fishing in a 55-60 zone gets me more skill ups per cast than fishing in Northrend would.
Once you get to where you can do the fishing daily you'll find your skill goes up quite quickly and you get an actual reward for your effort. -- I'd take the time to insult your intelligence, but you probably wouldn't get it. |

You sure you're at 450 fishing?
I'm at 450 fishing, and with just a Glow Worm attached to my epic fishing pole, I can fish non-stop in Wintergrasp and never catch a trash grey item. |

| reply to Kilroy I too don't have fishing leveled up. I have cooking on both toons (450 and 445ish). I tried to level fishing on both at various points in time and I get at most 20-30 points into it and junk my fishing pole/bait and curse myself out for wasting the time.
Then I go and dump piles of gold for fish feasts on the AH, and such.
Fishing blows. It's the worst timesink I have seen in this game, even below those painful rep grinds. I really wish they would do something, ANYTHING, to make leveling it up somewhat enjoyable. I can't even watch TV while leveling it or I will never click in time.
I have never ever "botted" on WoW, nor ever dual-boxed or anything to that tune even, but I've gotten so annoyed about fishing that I've come close to auto-clicker'ing it. I just couldn't justify a ban & explaining to my guild just over stupid &*^#$&*@#$@#ing fishing. -- Baka wa shinanakya naoranai |

I leveled mine fairly quickly.
@ Techjoe...
Blizz has made fishing so much better with this xpac its not even funny.
Between the dailys, the fishing achievements, and the changes to fishing itself...its a ton better than what it used to be and not as painful to level like before. |

This site helped ALOT.
You want to level fishing?Make sure to get a BUFF fishing pole and use +++Bobbers or +++Worms. Its based on number of Successful catches,so even junk will level you,But to catch stuff and junk you need to make sure you do not miss a catch.
How did I do it on my main?I picked up on the Achievement for Ol' Crafty, and fished and fished and fished and fished and fished and fished and fished......From 290 to 450 and fished and fished and NEVER CAUGHT HIM!!!!!! Still trying for that stupid fish. -- Heavily Armed and Easily Provoked |

| reply to Kilroy I leveled fishing on by hunter to 300 during Vanilla, and won the tournament twice (and then once again on my priest). THAT was when fishing was a drag, the cast time was 30 seconds (down to 20 now), you could go a whole cast bar with your bobber not moving (that is fixed now), there were no fishing pools, and if you didn't have enough skill for an area you couldn't even cast. And yet I still found it relaxing to once in ahwile just throw a line in while I was waiting for a raid to start or whatever.
Now, I am not even sure what the point of leveling fishing is going to be. According to the patch notes, in 3.3 as long as you cast into a pool it wont matter what skill you have, you'll catch fish instead of trash! I can't believe they are screwing us hardcore fishermen by nerfing fishing for you casuals!
(Just kidding on that last line, btw, I just find it ironic that the one thing that used to be truly tailored to the point a casual could excel at it is now being nerfed due to the "hardcore" not having the patience to level it, lol) |

I have (4) toons with 450. There should be an achievement just for that! -- Low Self Esteem Support Group will meet Thursday at 7 PM. Please use the back door.

I've fished countless Monsterbellies and Sculpin over in Borean.
Angelfish in Dragonblight.
Wintergrasp is a highlevel zone, if I can fish there getting no trash items...then low level zones really aren't a problem. |

Garbs Mudhole? Slimy? My home this is. Premium,MVM join:2002-08-27 Garden State | Wintergrasp = Fish Feast. You can get every ingredient (except Northrend spices, obviously) you need from WG: Musselbacks, Glacials, and Nettlefish. I usually spent about 30 mins tops, once a week, and net what will amount to be a stack of feasts. |

I don't think they exist in Wintergrasp but anywhere else I fish I get those at least one in ten. 1 edit | reply to Kilroy Unless things have changed lately there is no "chance" for a skill up. every skill point in fishing is based on the number of successful catches. For example from 1 to 75 = 1 fish, 76 100 = 2 catches, 101 to 125 = 3 catches etc. My numbers are probably wrong, but they are to illustrate my point. I just finished leveling fishing from 1 to 450 on my 5th toon in the Dalaran Sewers, and most of the skill points i recieved were for grey junk catches. |
