| Network not showing up on any Wireless Network List
I recently went to put a password on my router (Netgear WGR614 v5) a WEP one I believe it generated a random key and I copied it down. After that the WEP key wouldn't work on another computer in the network so I turned off the router and turned it back on. Then none of the computers could connect because it said the WEP key was wrong. I then followed instructions online which said to reset the router back to the default settings, I did this and now the Netgear network won't show up on any of the computers Wireless Networks List |

1 edit | It may be that you have no SSID entered into the device since the reset. The SSID is the name you choose to call the device and will show up when you poll wireless devices to make a connection. fox7
Edit: Also, on the reset, the device may have the wireless turned off by default. |

| I figured out how to get the wirelss back working. The Netgear network now shows up on the Wireless Networks List but when I connect to it, it says I'm connected but won't open up any internet pages I get a ieframe.dll dns error. I'm running Windows XP by the way |

@optonline.net | Ok I'm using Cable, whenever I try to load up a webpage I get a ieframe.dll dnserror, I cant even input the new settings into the router because I get the same error when I try to access 192.168.1.1 settings page |

| That error can be any number of things, including IE issues or corrupt TCP/IP stack.

@optonline.net | I've actually been following that thread and everything I try from there doesn't see to fix anything, but it's not just IE 7, Firefox won't open any pages either. |

Can you connect and surf without WEP? Are you sure you're using WEP on both ends and not WPA? What's the output of ipconfig /all? |

| reply to Board orBurn Yea, and ipconfig /all and a ping results would be nice.
Go to Start>Run>type in cmd click Yes>type ipconfig /all in the black window at the blinking cursor. I am interested in if you get a DNS server?? And you IP address and Default Gateway.
Then after that is complete, type at the blinking cursor ping 74.125.19.106
That is a Google server and see if you get a response or unable to locate host.

@optonline.net | Ok so I did all that and got: IP: 192.168.1.5 DNS: 192.168.1.1 Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
and when i pinged 74.125.19.106 the request timed out |

What do you have in front of the Netgear?? A cable modem, yes, but is it only a modem?? Does it have a router in it also??
And you do have all the cables connected correctly??

| Just to make sure, in case the router didn't pull the DNS info correctly from your ISP's DHCP server, try this:
Turn off the modem, router and PC. Turn on the modem, wait for it to sync. Turn on the router, wait for it to come ready. Boot the PC and try again.
Sounds silly, but it gives you something to do while I'm trying to think of an answer.

| Ok interestingly enough when I turned everything off then back on in that order, my LAN connection was limited to no connection. I clicked on the details and it said it was because the network didn't assign a DNS or Default Gateway. I clicked repair and the same #s I said above were put in, but still getting the ieframe.dll dnserror |

| Find the DNS server information for your ISP. It should be in the router settings or on the ISP's web site (which you probably can't get to). Then, manually enter them in the TCP/IP settings for the wireless adapter in the PC.
Failing that, I'd try repairing the TCP/IP stack. It's a pretty common issue with Windows installations. There's a Microsoft Knowledge Base article on it (sorry, I don't have the link handy). |
