Re: Firewall Issue ??

said by DownTheShore:

I wish I could help you more, but we've about reached the end of my limited knowledge set.
Thanks for help, it was greatly appreciated.

I worked on that computer today and found that Port 443 was not being blocked but I created a rule for that site to ensure that it was not being blocked somehow. Also, I tried turning off some settings in NIS to no avail. So, at this point the outlook is rather bleak. I was hoping to get another response from Mike of the Norton Authorized Support Team who posted in this thread. As you can see he has not revisited this thread and has not responded to IM's.

On Friday I am going to uninstall and nuke NIS then try accessing the site. There are only 20 days remaining on the subscription so this is a good time to determine most definitively if NIS is the culprit. I will post the results.

Thanks again,

Joe P

You might try uninstalling Norton, then using the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of any remaining bits and pieces, and then reinstall it. Maybe something got corrupted along the way during an update.

It's an odd problem, that's for sure.

Hi joepwpb,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

One thing that may be causing the problem here is the Phishing filter that exists in both IE and Norton Internet Security. Please try disabling the Phishing Filter in IE first (Tools->SmartScreen Filter) and turn it "Off" and then test. If you still have problems accessing the PNC site then disable the Norton Phishing Filter. You can access this setting by opening Norton Internet Security, choose the "Settings" link next to Identity. Turn the "Antiphishing" switch to "Off" and then click the "Apply" and "OK" buttons at the bottom of the window and then test again.

If changing the settings above does not resolve the issue, please follow the steps below to properly remove Norton Internet Security to test.

1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Log into Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

3. Test connecting to the PNC site and let me know if you can now connect.

Thank you,
Mike

Saw the above post and thought I'd check this with my bank site. Since I didn't have the IE SmartScreen Filter on in the first place, I turned it on and then tried to access the site with it and the Norton Anti-Phishing Filter on. No problems accessing the site so the use of both didn't create a conflict in this instance; but this only applies to my site, of course.

Thanks Mike...

I should have all that you suggested completed NLT this time tomorrow and will post the results.

Regards,

Joe P

P.S. It appears that you have not received the IM's I sent. Do you see a flashing icon at the top of your page?

I've had the same problem (sort of) with the Met Life online investment website after maybe July 2009. Their website worked great for me up to then. My online banking (US Bank), my 401k, Scottrade, etc, have always worked great. But Met Life online is just bad, barely get logged in, wouldn't go to next pages, wouldn't log out right, etc. I've tried disabling this and that; with little success.

I tried IE6 (&2K with NIS 2006) and tried IE7 (& XP with NIS 2009) (I have tri boot computer (98se, 2k, and xp)); same problem. I think a few sites don't realize they are losing customers. I'm about to transfer my IRAs somewhere else.

Either Snoopy has been updating Met Life website lately (they do have a banner saying welcome to their new and improved website) and/or the Root Cert update helped a lot. The website seems to be working a lot better this evening.

Thanks,
TJ
