| reply to brianiscool Because the Gillette folks think the market will bear the price?
If you're a cheapass budget-minded person like me, get yourself an old-fashioned double-edge safety razor. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with those old DE razors and you can get good blades for them at a much lower price than today's eight-blade razor cartridges. Just don't buy Gillette DE blades because they are, ironically, reputed to be some of the worst DE blades out there.
Anyways, you may want to take a look at the Personna line of blades the next time you're at Wal-Mart. I haven't looked for Fusion stuff, but there might be a cheaper generic equivalent you can use that will fit a Fusion handle (after all, those razor commericals cost money).
I think the last 21st Century Gillette product I used was a Mach 3 and, frankly, I got tired of getting skanked every time I bought new blades. There's been a revival of straight-edge shaving for this same reason. -- "I thought he was a piñata."

| Gillette has priced it at what they think the market can bear. If you continue to buy at that price, they will continue to think they can charge that...
Don't buy at regular price or you just support that concept.
However, I will continue to make fun of you if you buy razor blades at that price. 'specially fusion vibrator blades. Total gimmick IMHO
I would only pay that amount if it gave me exactly the feeling my real vibrator does... -- I've been on more laps than a napkin.

I am waiting when they finally come out with the 47 blade ultramega with 3 side trimmers and 9 notril tweasers.

| reply to brianiscool Here's what I do.. I pick up shick extreme 3s in the fabled 10 pack (8 + 2) when I see it on sale. At $8-ish, you get 10 blades! That's a deal.. and they easily last a month each.
I don't know about getting a month+ out of a fusion blade, some people say you can. I can't even get over the $10+ thing. lol. -- VGMasters my video game forum |

Why ? Because there are people out there willing to pay that price thinking those blades are better than the five dollar ones. -- It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. |

| reply to brianiscool Yeah gold...
... as in gold for the executive compensation packages for P&G top brass.
Gillette consistently tests above Schick (Wilkinson Sword) and other major brands. They are the best, but there's little justification for that price. I keep a handful of Fusion cartridges around for comparison and "special occasions". It's less about the blades and more about the blade coatings; the more expensive ones will last longer with proper care. Rinse and air dry the cartridges immediately after use (shake out then blot) to reduce the corrosion; you'll get WEEKS of useful life from the top brands as opposed to days.
Lately I find that shaving technique has much more to do with closeness and comfort than the brand or number of blades in cartridge. I recently started shaving in the shower, with a warm wet face and fog-free mirror... BIG improvement vs. shaving over the sink.
I feel I get just as close a shave (or better) with a Schick Quattro, as opposed to a Gillette M3 Power or Fusion. -- "I finish things... that's what I do." (Walter Kowalski, lead character in "Gran Torino") |

The hot water and steam in the shower helps soften your facial hair and makes it easier for the razor to cut.

Two or three times per week, due to a combination of lazyness & my hair doesn't grow fast. I look "clean shaven" for a good day and a half after a shave. Unfortunately, with age, I have developed a great head of hair on my back which I'm more concerned with than my face. -- "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy." - George Carlin |
