wimax is a joke

Shows there still is a million incompatible Wimax implementations (wimax standard + band plan). So much for "open" technology.

No it doesn't. The WiMAX systems work on the same frequency. It's just that equipment standardization is a good thing, and Xohm uses more ZyXEL stuff while Clear uses Motorola. If everyone has the same home modem, crap is much easier to troubleshoot.

Not really. WiMax is a standard. Actually, a group of standards, but standards none the less.

The "million incompatible WiMax implementations" are using pre-certification gear. Just like with the 802.11n...vendors have been selling pre-cert gear for years and most provide a firmware upgrade to bring the hardware in compliance once the standard has been ratified.
