I got an email a week or 2 ago, about changes USAA was making and who can be a member (They were/are expending who qualifies), I didn't keep it, or even read it, as I'm already a USAA member, so it didn't effect me.

I would check with USAA to see if you can be a member or not (always the best to go to the source, verses asking random people.)

You do qualify to be a USAA member, however, you are not eligible for all the benefits and services that they offer.

I never served, my parents never served, and I was honest about it (father did work as a civ with the govt - Wright Patterson air Force Base though) and I got their CC no issues.

Call and ask...

You didn't mention if you were seeking membership in order to get auto or home insurance. If that's your reason for joining USAA, then be sure to shop around for better rates. I was a USAA member for more than 20 years and always got the best auto insurance rates through them. On my last renewal a month ago, they jacked my rates nearly 40% with absolutely no changes in my policy. I moved to MetLife and cut my premium to far less than what USAA was asking.

It pays to shop around for insurance!

"Additionally, USAA life insurance, investment, retirement and deposit products are also available to members` extended families and others who are not eligible for USAA membership. "

If a bank account is considered a "deposit Product" you may be.

Here is a list of those that qualify. You most likely do not.
