No, a femtocell is a hardware device that has a 'cellular' radio built in. It is meant to communicate with cellphones, its not the same thing as wifi.

You are correct about this, it would need to be a dual function device (or a standalone femto which wouldnt make sense in this case) in order to be feasible.

What could be the case is a femtocell that is a combination device (wireless + femtocell).

It could even be the equivalent of a network device (femtocell that connects to a router via Ethernet) so it could be used to connect to customer-owned routers, or both.

(Such a femtocell would be the equivalent of a home Mifi device, or T-Mobile's Hotspot@Home, but based on femto tech.)
