This article's comparing of EDGE to "low end" EVDO is a bit generous. In the real world, EDGE data speeds are comparable to 1xRTT data speeds.

a bit sad that AT&T and this link are quibbling over the details while not touching the facts with a 10 ft pole.

Typically I see over 100kbps on EDGE, sometimes as high as 240kbps. I find it acceptable in "BFE" areas. It's unacceptable in more densely populated areas where the bandwidth is likely to be consumed though.

I'm all for Verizon's campaign, anything to push AT&T to do more deployment is welcome in my book. AT&T, instead of paying your lawyers, upgrade some towers.

Same here. While it works decently in most areas of SoCal, many other parts of the country needs to be upgraded.

SoCal seems to have wonderful AT&T 3G coverage. I think that was one of the first areas to get the 850Mhz overlay wasn't it?

Yes - and to that extent, I'm in one of the areas of SoCal that first had the 850MHz 3g overlay.

That's great news for areas (like mine) that are woefully overloaded and haven't gotten the 850Mhz overlay yet. Hopefully AT&T can get that rolled out quickly to other areas.

If I'm not mistaken, many parts of NC do not have an 850MHz license (e.g. Raleigh).

I know my area hasn't been upgraded yet and I'm about an hour west of Raleigh.
