I haven't rented a movie in almost a year and last time I did it was downloaded from the PSN movie store straight to my PS3.
Decided what I wanted to watch during the afternoon and downloaded it, went about my business at home and then watched it at night.
Quite simple. No hassle. Got things done instead of wasting my time driving to the store.
Physical media will still have its place for the future, but for ownership, not rental. |

1 edit | Most of my movie collection is on my network, converted using Nero into MPEG4-AVC and AAC-HE with help from AnyDVD.
All the physical media is stored in the basement, locked in a cabinet. I even converted most of my video tapes to MP4. |

Bel Air, MD | That is so the minority. But yes, he/she does. Just about all of us techy people do. I'm not saying it's right. But in most of our minds, file sharing is on the same tier as jaywalking.
IMO, the music industry blew it long ago. And once the cat is out of the bag, there is no stopping it. It's up to companies to figure out legit and creative ways of getting media into our hands. And the RIAA and MPAA have to blend in with the times. |

1 edit | Oh.. The MPAA and RIAA has been making life harder for us to make backups of our BOUGHT movies, not to mention the DRM on practically EVERYTHING.
It's people like your friend that makes the MPAA and RIAA force ISPs to use crap like Sandvine to throttle torrents, therefore pissing me off when I'm downloading a legit torrent.
I buy my movies (either new or used), then back them up to MP4 using Nero and AnyDVD on my home network.. Then I put the disc or tape back in the case and put it on a shelf in my cabinet in case I ever need it again.
EDIT: I bet your friend is thrilled that you ratted him/her out on a public forum.

Wow, if you think HE engages in illegal activity, you must REALLY hate me. 2 TB, bah, that's like 1 month of traffic for me. BUT, you can't BLAME me, because I am exactly what society made me. I'm getting the MOST I CAN (about 30TB at the moment), for the LEAST amount of money (umm, $0.00). By definition, I am greedy, getting FAR MORE than I deserve, while paying far less than I should. So, before you start throwing out accusations about people being WRONG about what they do, maybe should should rethink the philosophy of the megacorps, which always provide the LEAST amount of service (i.e. lowest cost), for the HIGHEST price (most value), they can. Piracy is nothing more than corporatism for the average person, who is doing EXACTLY what the megacorps do. |
