| I'm not convinced you'll notice a difference. As far as I know, when you're talking about optical drives, the connection has no influence on the performance of the drive. Both interfaces have no problem maxing out usable bandwidth to the burner. The SATA cables are nicer - better airflow, and they're easier to work with. Though now you can buy IDE cables that are 'bundled' or whatever and round.
If the implication is that the SATA ports being on the same PCI card might improve speeds, that I'm less sure about. But I'm not sure why that would be faster than two SATA connections on the same motherboard.
Personally, I've given up internal optical drives. I'd much rather buy a beefy external burner. But I've had a lot of bad experiences with internal optical drives breaking, or arriving DOA.
