Also, as a former VZW rep (left in Aug), I can say with near perfect certainty that you are not billed data if all you do is open mobile web and view the homepage. Data billing starts once you go to the second page.
You are billed data the moment the Get It Now or Media Center application catalog is initialized.
You are not billed for the sending and receiving of picture/video messages. However, a complete data block will turn these services off.
It is very easy to be billed for data services, but it's also very easy to avoid the charges. I have 3 phones on my account, all capable of being charged for data. None of them have a data plan, nor any data blocks. I have never had a problem with these erroneous charges. All of the users know what not to do to avoid being billed. |

It was a direct result of having these $1.99 data charges appear on my bill which forced me to block all data.
Thanks for the pointer on being able to re-program the multi-directional toggle button. Of course, the vast majority will not have a clue as to what you speak. |

I left VZW because they kept continually cutting the pay of their sales force, and I was able to find better employment elsewhere.
Honestly, it's not that hard to keep these charges from appearing on your bill. It just requires a little responsibility on the part of the user. As an employee, 99% of the inquiries I fielded about the Megabyte charges were legitimate charges. But, researching the source of the charges is difficult, and determining the difference between when the charges were incurred and when the billing system posted them to the account was annoying and frustrating. So most reps just added the credit to the account and apologized for the confusion. Well, that really never solved anything, because the customer remained ignorant to how the charges got there and they would show up next month.
If they want to put this thing to rest, make it plain-as-day easy for reps and customers on vzw.com to see exactly what and where the data charges are coming from. |
