I recently canceled my VZ home phone and DSL services. Before I did this, I called up and talked to customer service and asked if I was under a contract. They looked it up and said that I had no contract on the account.
A few days after that, I canceled my service with them. On my last bill, I had a $79 early termination fee. I called up and complained, they explained that it was a mistake and removed it.
I would bet that they apply an early termination fee to everyone's account that cancels too, just to see who pays and who doesn't. Why not make a little extra cash as the user is canceling, if they complain, remove it, if not, pocket it. I am willing to bet that if I had paid the ETF, and they had discovered the "error" they wouldn't have refunded me the money. |
