Re: [360] Modded consoles get banned as new COD ships The thing that strikes me silly is the fact that so many of these people that get banned are for some of the most obvious things, like playing a game a week before its release date, even when there hasn't been any stores that have broken the street date in the area. Especially with the simple fact that the 360 timestamps damned near every save file on the console.
I would think that if I was in a situation where mine was modded, common sense would tell me not to do something so blatantly stupid like that, and just wait at least a week or two anyway, so that I can find out if a game is worth getting or not. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever

Edit: I did check the Microsoft forums on this, and several Microsoft reps indicate that playing a legitimate copy of a game prior to release date does not result in a ban.
I've seen ads recently in my area for low cost Xbox 360's. My assumption is some / many of them are banned. It is very possible a parent, who doesn't follow the news about consoles, could purchase a banned console thinking it was a great value and wind up with children unable to play online.
Microsoft should allow anyone to enter the serial number of an Xbox 360 to the Xbox.com website and determine in advance if it is banned. At this time, it makes no sense to purchase a used Xbox 360 IMO.
I've read the Xbox 360 forums, and there seems to be some help available for those who feel unfairly banned. A Microsoft representative sort of does a manual review to determine if a ban is fair or not. If the ban is fair, you will not only lose your Xbox access, but also your Xbox live account and all it's DLC.
I am also amazed at the number of belligerent hackers who are caught, and feel it is fair for them to steal because game prices are too high. A customer should be able to determine in advance, possibly by texting to a MS SMS number to determine if an Xbox 360 is banned or not. -- "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use."
