 | Question... Who here realizes we are talking about devices we hold in our hands that can look at the internet from all most anywhere & talk to a person thousands of miles away on similar device, don't weigh 50 lbs or require a backpack or a car to power?
Just in case you forgot, 28 years ago there were no cell phones. A cell provider has to build towers & antenna banks/placements & the cables to power it all & transmit data.
Just imagine if fuel efficiency, something we've had 200 years to work on, public transportation, education & urban planning were so hotly publicly debated and fought over.
That being said, my slower (iPhone 3Gs has higher speed capability) iPhone 3G picks up wireless 600kbit/sec downstream, pretty good for a device doing that all on its own sitting in my hand going 100 mph on a train. My second to last DSL provisioning was 768/384, so it's pretty damn fast. When i get my next iPhone, i'm guessing the average will be double that or more, but i'm in no hurry, i actually appreciate the sheer chance that i can even afford such a device.
