| unlike Apple hype, it takes money to make money The issue is the network... AT&T should take a few billion out of its accounts and deploy its own network and STFU. If you want to play the game, you don't need a white night partner like vodafone-- you just need to commit funds to ensuring you have the most deployed network in the wireless industry. I'm pretty sure the frequency licenses AT&T has for cellphone data is also for the 3g data so the real issue is deployment. AT&T is not chomping at the bit to go toe to toe with Comcast for U-Verse.. so they need to ante up for wireless and improve their coverage. Afterall, how long do they think allegedly sexy phones such as the Iphone will keep customers loyal? If millions left Verizon & Sprint for AT&T.. they could easily switch back for a better deal &/or phone in the future but having a network that won't let customers so easily out of an ETF (due to a bad network) is worth more to them then they think. They come for the phone, but they stay for the network (though, sometimes price is a factor too).. that's what Verizon's ad campaign is all about (even if Verizon's ads offend and don't exactly target the points their trying to make). |
