It has a lot of social networking aspects built in, so I've jumped onto all the social networks to see what the trends are and what really works for people.
What I like about Twitter is that it's sort of a series of interleaved RSS feed where I can directly interact with the sources, rebroadcast, converse, etc. I really enjoy it. Glad you're on there now.

| Re: Twitter == Two-Way RSS Glad you're on there now. Thanks! I'm slow, so it took a while for the value to sink in. As somebody in the collaborative info business, do you agree with the idea that what Twitter is doing will essentially be integrated into all applications (the nearly instantaneous exchange of data)?
I'm a bit nerded out to see where things go from here. I get the sense that Twitter itself will be irrelevant in three years, do you agree?

I do think that systems like Twitter with APIs for intercommunication between will be VERY popular and will continue to proliferate. FaceBook apps are one example--though they're very poorly done and it's kinda the wild west. If a system shows up with the ability for devs to interact with APIs with the actual products being vetted before gaining access to a system, it will be something special. -- No eat apple, eat cookie. I get the sense that Twitter itself will be irrelevant in three years, do you agree? Twitter is here to stay. Look at a predecessor to twitter, Xanga. Xanga died. People don't want to write in school and work, they don't want to write to the internet. Those who want to write will have real blogs . They want more powerful blogging platforms that bring attention to them, not their friends, aka, little/no social networking. Myspace and Facebook have blogging abilities for those that want them, but they aren't the focus.
Twitter offers exhibitionism, update anywhere, and ADHD/busy life compliant, and has the "dog fart video" crude humor ability, but in words. Youtube also has the "dog fart video" ability, and thats why it is still here today. Crude entertainment for the masses on the masses level. Twitter has broadcasting ability. And much less effort to make a work to publish than a blog post or a video. No editing of the blogpost or video footage. People write txts everyday, making them into a multicast/broadcast with a checkmark is effortless.
Myspace looks immature because of the CSS. Facebook seems too complicated and confusing.

I used to work with a guy who was obsessed with 27 blawgs, 38 RSS feeds, twitter, etc. Stuff was flashing all over his screen. He literally couldn't take his eyes away from his screen.
I'd walk into his cube and he'd talk to me for 10 minutes while looking at screen, or smart phone which was constantly chirping at him. Very rarely he would pull himself away, with a visceral groan, and look at his visitor's face. But, within 2 minutes some chrip, bell, or flashing "Look at me!" icon would catch his attention and not only would he stop looking at his visitor, but he'd stop talking for 20-30 seconds as he caught up with everything he'd missed.
It really seemed to me like an addiction. A real, and palpable illness.
