toplevelpotUnlucky in women and cards join:2008-04-19 Los Angeles, CA | I wanted to use it as an os drv but got it after i moved from xp. Usually use it as a vmem drv or as a scratchpad if say i'm slipstreaming. I also have my SETI data stored on there hoping for a ppd increase. have 2x2GB+2x512mb in there, for a total of @4.45 GB after the 1/9capacity taken for ECC functions. If you get the right memory, you can disable that to get full capacity. I also have used it as a Readyboost drv (in Vista it needed to be formatted fat 32 for that, not so win7) but as i do not do anything seriously intense i cannot indicate the affect on my system's speed or responsiveness. Well, 'cept for the benefit of having an additional drive. -- Prejudice against alternate consciousness would probably make JFK laugh at you; Carl Sagan would probably say you have a blindspot. | reply to toplevelpot There used to software on old macs to take the ram and turn it into a ram drive.
How can you do this with windows? I have 4 GB of Ram I could take one out I would imagine and make it into a ram drive since 32 bit cant access all of it anyway. -- KieranMullen »360oregon.com

toplevelpotUnlucky in women and cards join:2008-04-19 Los Angeles, CA | umm. you dont actually take it out to use software ramdisks. and i've seen software that would use any ram over the 3.2-3.5 32bit limit and address it for ramdrive usage. don't remember the name but yeah stuff like that is available -- Prejudice against alternate consciousness would probably make JFK laugh at you; Carl Sagan would probably say you have a blindspot. I said the software took the ram and turned it into a Ram drive.
My Mac IIsi was limited to 17 MB of ram though it came with 3 -- KieranMullen »360oregon.com

I hope something else on your PC was eating up the disk, otherwise your drive has a problem. SMART stats might help me determine what. -- Making life hard for others since 1977. I speak for myself and not my employer/affiliates of my employer. |
