| | LOL AOL should of bought out a cable company when they were making the big bucks. Look at them now suffering each day. Sooner or later they will not support their AOL software anymore and only become a web portal. Their only small income probably comes from dial up customer's and people that use aol instant messenger. Good reddens AOL. | |

Videotron (cableco) offers internet, cellular, television, and telephone. The only difference is the technical delivery mechanism that the customer doesn't care about. | |

They merged but the name became AOL Time Warner and Steve Case remained CEO. The AOL techs were euphoric and kept telling me that very soon I could beta test their broadband but in the meantime Road Runner finally came to town and AOL told me I could have AOL broadband but it would be a few months wait so they gave me AOL dialup free and I had Road Runner installed and was going to switch it to AOL Broadband but all the great plans started falling through. Then Steve Case's brother became very ill and he took a leave to nurse his brother and it all continued to fall apart. The free fall never ceased and Steve Case didn't really care after his brother died. He was a changed man. And here we are with what few remnants are left and Road Runner is killing our free backup dialup at the end of this month. The reason for that is because it uses AOL phone numbers and, after the split that fell through, we RR users suffer as the backup dialup was really nice to have. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. Oh yes I am SUFFERING so bad without AOL dial up access. Oh woe is me, the pain and SUFFERING is almost unbearable. Damn Time Warner for bailing on an old, outdated, ancient means of internet connectivity.
I for one am glad as all hell Time Warner is ditching their dial up access.
Seriously who even used it? Three out of my four computers don't even have dial up modems in them. My IBM from 1995 is the only one that does. -- Don't Blame Me, I Voted For McCain Welcome to The SSA, The Socialist States of Amerika, Lead By Your Dictator, Hussein Obama Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Fidel Castro, Saddam Hussein, B. Also, they say people use it on trips. Even if you just go to Oahu, very few hotels have broadband access in the rooms and folks traveling to rural America need dialup. Just because you personally don't use it certainly does not mean others do not. I was thinking about getting a laptop and using it when I visit my mom on the Mainland. She does not have a computer so I would need it. With RR doing away with it, there is no reason for me to get a laptop.
You really need a reality check since you believe that no one uses dialup. Approximately 50% of internet users on this island use dialup as there is nothing else available. In my home town on the Mainland (65,000 pop) most folks use dialup. There is a small, independent cable tv company that charges an arm and a leg for 1500kbps.

| | | | | | Re: LOL Despite what you think Time Warner is not run by a bunch of idiots. If any sizable or significant portion of their subscriber base used their dial up access, they wouldn't have discontinued it.
You're the one that needs a reality check, what you constantly fail to realize is there are 306,704,612 Americans that do not live in that tropical wasteland you do and there is no reason for TW to specifically cater to one minute segment of the population. Out of their almost 9 million broadband subscribers, how many people do you think have ever used their dial up service? I'm willing to bet well under a half a million which is about 5.5% of their total users. Which is nothing, it's an insignificant amount.
With mobile broadband options from the cell phone providers and wifi hot spots you can get internet access just about anywhere without being connected to a phone line. Even on Edge my iPhone is slightly faster than dial up.
What laptops even come with dial up modems anymore? I'm looking at getting a ultra high end HP Pavilion DV8T. It has everything under the sun, Intel Quad Core processor, 8GB of RAM, 1080p display, Wireless N adaptor and a blu ray burner, but no dial up modem, it's not even a configurable option. Which is a good thing. It's called progress.
Dial up is dead, has been for a long time, there is no reason for any company to support it any more and more and more companies are abandoning, and there's nothing you can really do about it.
