Re: what kind of moron ? Usually, password protected rar files uploaded to torrent or newsgroup sites are created by people wanting to get paid a referral fee from a web site that pays.
You download the file, perhaps a movie someone really wants to see, like "New Moon" which opened today. You go to open the rar file and it's password protected and you're told to open an account at some site to get your password. The link contains a referral code so the scammer can get paid.
You pay the site but no password. The scammer gets paid his referral fee and you're out your money and you never even get to see the movie.
Go to isohunt.com and search for "New Moon" and you'll see a couple of dozen torrents with rar password protected files, all with referral links to a web site that charges you around $40 to "join". |
