Just for added information note that the supply you have has 36A 12v.
The 400 corsair mentioned is 30A and the 450 corsair is 33A so there isn't a lot of difference between them in that regard. Any should be fine for running a single graphics card like a 4870. The 450 uses components that are a step up from the 400, though neither is junk, and either would be fine.

The reason makers give numbers like 500w needed is because many people have cheap overrated supplies that have minimal 12v capability and they want to minimize the likelihood of problems, complaints, tech support calls. That card does not need a 500w supply if the supply is a decent quality recent design with acceptable 12v.

You don't need to race out and spend more money on a new supply however.
one question and I'm pretty sure I know what the answer will be a c2D system with a 4870 1Gb with a single hard drive no way a 350W PSU could run it right?

I wanted to test some memory out beforehand.. the PSU is a Antec but it only does 16A on +12V
