reply to Not Muted

Re: Closed Caption problem

The only way the mute button should control the STB volume(grey bar, upper right corner MUTE in white letters) is if the remote was set up to control the STB`s volume.

If pushing volume, controls the volume on your TV, then most likely you have a TV like Vizio whoose AV input controls the Mute on the tv.

In any event, the * button should control the STB`s Closed Caption function. This presumes that you have the Phillips remote with the round Fios TV button in the center.

If the A/V button controls the mute on your TV, then you have your remote programmed wrong for the Vizio. There is more than 1 code that will turn it on and off but the right code will mute with the mute button and not the A/V button. If you do STB OK, 922, Play, then hit FF 16-17 times (TV should either turn on or turn off again depending what it did on code 3) then you'll have the right code for that Vizio TV. A lot of techs seem to just go with the first code that turns the TV on/off and don't bother checking things like mute or volume.
