So for now, I'm using a free F-Secure license that I got from a promotion. It seems to be alright too.
They both have good detection via published tests. Although I must say I don't get to test it much, I've never run into an infection.
I also use a standard account and UAC on high settings.
I'll probably put Avira back shortly, though. |

Has the update problem with MSE been solved?
Thanks.

Avira's research showed that many AV vendors, and other vendors, have the problem on Vista/Win 7 but it doesn't show up for everyone and for many only the precursor Event 5038 in Security Audit appears and the actual chkdsk on reboot does not happen or doesn't for a long time. Yet, for a few, one Event 5038 immediately led to chkdsk on boot. Strange problem in that it doesn't manifest, in full degree, on all computers with these AV (and some other programs) using Vista/Win 7. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. Mele20Premium join:2001-06-05 Hilo, HI kudos:4 | Yes, I noticed it on the beta. I didn't post about it in Avast forum because it was on a beta version which I figured they knew about it (I'm sure they were well aware of Avira's problem as Avira said they and Microsoft had talked to other vendors and found the problem with a number of them). I figured Avast would fix in the next beta which apparently they did in beta 3 because I didn't see the error after getting that version.
I tried Professional 4.8 on a XP virtual machine earlier this year and I don't know if that security audit error is there or not. I haven't used that machine in a long while. I did see that Avira had been causing the 5038 error in Vista from the time I created that machine (May 2008) and installed Avira 8. But I never got the chkdsk on boot just the precursor error in Security Audit. -- When governments fear people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.
