Ummm....

Doesn't the concurrent use of data and voice on ATT require 3G coverage? And if so, it makes the Verizon ads even more powerful imo, showing ATT's lack of 3G.

Comment: Although, I do have to admit that I'd love to be able to use both data and voice at the same time, ATT just doesn't have the coverage required to do that in a lot of areas that I frequent. In my area, CDMA rules the roost so to speak. Too many dead areas with GSM locally to be worth my while of looking into it.

This feature on the iPhone in a 3g coverage area hardly never works. I say 1 out of 10 times I try to surf the web when talking it will actually work. Most of the time I get an error meassage along the lines of "data currently unavalible"

Talk & browse on Verizon/Sprint CDMA if using WiFi

And you can talk and browse concurrently on a CDMA(Verizon & Sprint) smartphone .... if you are using WiFi to do the browsing.

Now I never actually do browsing and talking on my smartphone ever anyway. But I read this topic and thought I'd try it out. And you can't browse and talk if out of range of a WiFi hotspot. But I was able to talk and browse when my Palm Pre was connected to my home WiFi router.

So, even this ad by AT&T has its exaggerations.

Re: Ummm....

If you want to be limited by a provider then definitely go with verizon, cdma technology has been around so long that their map shouldn't have any white on it. But if you want to keep up with technology and get the full experience then go with At&t. Both companies need to focus on the people that build and maintain the network instead of pissing away money on tit for tat.

I prefer to have something out where I live. ATT is pretty close to nothing.

Fanboy posting from a VZ domain?
For me AT&T has been good, depends on the area of the country though. Some providers are better in some geographical areas.

He could be posting from a friend's phone, or a company issued phone.

One of my employees was recently issued a Storm 2 and was all pissed off he didn't get an iPhone.

I just about snatched the damn thing back from him, and told him to pay for his own damn calls. The company contract is with Verizon, this is what they give me to give you.

Sorry, but domain name gives an anon post ZERO CRED.

I am not saying that it gives him/her credibility, just fairly funny if you ask me. The person stated what they thought and was instantly branded a shill/fanboy etc. Just funny when it is posted from a VZ domain.

Suckiest? nah!

As a T-Mo customer, I would love to have At&T's 3G coverage!

Re: Ummm....

Perhaps JoeShmoe had to use a Verizon device because they could not get service with their AT&T phone?

Re: Talk & browse on Verizon/Sprint CDMA if using WiFi

I'll agree that this feature is not a 'big deal' for the average user, or even most users.

I have dropped my SSH tunnel when calls/sms come in, which is a real pain, as I use the SSH tunnel for work, and the sms/call for incoming pages. In general, even for me, it isn't a huge issue, more of a minor annoyance.

I'd think that Nextel would have to be the worst 3G coverage... NONE.

Yeah... like the outage this morning in NC that left the Triangle without 3G service for most of the morning.

AT&T Wireless restores data access in Triangle area
AT&T

Posted: Today at 10:31 a.m.
Updated: Today at 12:43 p.m.

Raleigh, N.C. — AT&T Wireless customers in the Triangle area experienced trouble with the network’s high-speed data services on Monday morning.

An AT&T spokesperson in Charlotte said “intermittent” outages had taken place.

Service was restored around 11 a.m.

"Due to an equipment issue, some AT&T customers in the Raleigh area may have experienced issues with their 3G data service earlier this morning," AT&T's Amy Bristle said. "AT&T technicians have resolved the issue, and all service should be running normally. We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers."

A WRAL viewer had contacted WRAL.com to report “No 3G service for me today.”

3G is a reference to third-generation service, which offers higher upload and download services that older networks. 3G also better supports multi-media services such as access to the Web, photos and images as well as video.

I have used my Nokia E70 on wifi and speaker phone at the same time. I never tried it with data.

It would be stupid if you can't use speaker phone while sending an email or looking up something online..

Nice try BF69, you are so wrong. Im actually using Verizon but as soon as my contract is up I will be switching to at&t. Thats right I'm waiting because Verizons ETF are rediculous. As for the at&t Kool-aid remark...it is played out, be more creative, I've only read it about 1000X's. Oh yeah and I am not and never have worked for either company, nor am I interested to. Just stating the facts as I see them here in Miami.
