Hi, I am on Sky Broadband Connect as I'm out of their main area. I get a good 6Mbps connection off-peak. During the evenings it's always been slower, but recently it's down to 300-500Kbps in the evenings and sometimes during the day (e.g. weekends). I can't use iPlayer, You Tube videos take ages and I can't even think about playing online with my mates.
I called Sky and they say it must be a problem with my BT exchange. (NDMAR) I called BT and they say the exchange is fine and it must be a problem with Sky. I'm stuck, but this level of service is unacceptable.
Even when slow my router shows an 8Mbit connection, but I'm just not getting it.
Thanks for any help or advice. Is there any point in changing ISPs? Is this just a question of being stuck in a rural area with too many people using broadband?
Your SNR down stream is high. I am with O2 on a 20 meg package and have a Netgear GT, I use the DMT tool to lower my SNR. At boot the SNR is 6.0 which DMT lowers to 0.8 to 1.5 and averages through the day 1.7. This lowering pushes my sync up from 13000Kbps to 15400+ Kbps. I have never used the standard ADSL package that you are on so I don't know if the DMT tool would help you. Another piece of software I use is TCPOptimiser.(Free). It is very easy to use and it also helps with Wireless. If you do try TCPOtimiser select the OPTIMISE button at the bottom of the screen and then Ok. See if that helps and if it does then play around with the latancy. I use 200. One other thing to try, is your connection at the wall in the TEST socket? That can help.
