Re: DVD-ROM not working?! I assume the DVD-ROM drive worked fine (with the same CD you tried today) prior to moving it off the RAID controller?
If so -- is it possible AHCI mode is enabled in the system BIOS, and that the DVD-ROM that came with your system isn't AHCI compatible? This may be why Dell stuck the DVD-ROM drive on the RAID controller (which may not be configured for RAID at all; could be operating in JBOD with AHCI disabled on the RAID controller).
