Update to EVDO?

said by Karl :
Meanwhile, an upcoming update to the CDMA/EVDO standard will soon give Verizon users the capability -- rendering the entire debate useless.
I don't doubt you, but do you have a source with more info on this? I'd like to know more as I thought it was technically impossible.

Yes, I was also wondering about this. Can you please elaborate on this Karl?

I found this, but I can't seem to dig anything up stating Verizon will deploy the update. It appears they've had the foundation in place (EVRC-B) for quite a while however.

Re: Update to EVDO?

AFAIK no US CDMA carrier is going to do it, it used to be call EV-DV (DV = Data Voice or something) but since VZW is skipping to LTE and Sprint is on WiMax, EVDV was supposed to be dead. unless its something else. (I use sprint myself and would love to be able to do data+voice at the same time)

This is definitely something new. It's called CDMA2000 1x Advanced.

The impression I got was that Verizon was going to develop its CDMA network in parallel with its LTE network, and that LTE was not just going to be an upgrade.

Re: Update to EVDO?

LTE is going to be on VZW's new aquired 700mhz spectrum. The current EV-DO and all else is staying the same for now.
