[Newsgroups] Black Friday Usenet!

If this belongs in the Hot Deals forum for Black Friday deals, I apologize, please move...I had figured most users that frequent that forum would not care about it...

Without further "ado", since I don't think it has been done before, figured we would try bringing "Black Friday" / "Cyber Monday" chaos to Usenet.

Late Thursday night just after midnight this page will become active for purchases: »usenetnow.net/holidays.html

$8.99 per month as long as subscription remains active.

In Black Friday fashion, deals are usually limited by inventory or time frames, so this is being limited to the first 400 sign ups OR until 11 AM eastern time that morning.

At that same link, beginning Cyber Monday morning through the rest of the holidays:

$48 every 6 months; this was popular since many folks didnt want to pay a whole year in advance.

For those block users among us, 500 GBs for $51 is up now, through the rest of the holidays: »blocknews.net/holidays.html

Happy Holidays to everyone, whatever it is you may celebrate!

Cheers to Swintec for bringing some Usenet goodness to Black Friday / Cyber Monday!

NGR is going to track all the Usenet providers and keep an updated list of Black Friday specials beginning at 12:01 EST on Friday. The list will be posted to our homepage along with the details of each discount.

Here is some more information - »www.ngrblog.com/usenet-black-friday-deals/

If you can help us promote the occasion we would really appreciate it. Hopefully we can make this a new tradition

The only thing wrong with this deal is I won't be able to run anyone down getting through the door on Friday.

I was just about to post asking whether I should go with blocknews or astraweb for a block account!

Looks like I'll be getting a 500GB block for $51 dollars!

THANKS!

WhoAA - 6 months for $48 dollars sounds even better!

tough choices.

BTW, is there an option to get a trial account?

Awesome deals Swintec. I might try to convince the wife to go for the 6 month deal as an early Christmas gift for me.

Will be interesting to see what Astraweb, Giganews, etc offer as well if anything. Seems like Astraweb is still offering the $96 a year deal strangely.

It looks like the first deals will launch around 5:00 AM EST Thanksgiving morning. Newshosting and Usenetserver are offering new customers their first month of unlimited access for $5. For Newshosting the deal will be for their NHXL account and UNS is the High Speed Plus account.

Other Usenet provider specials will be going live between 7:00 PM EST and midnight as Black Friday hits. We'll keep an updated list with details and all the links on the top of the Newsgroup Reviews home page.

It did get on those deal sites, noticed it when I saw all the visitors from there. It didnt seem to generate much interest as far as thread replies though....Unless no one wanted to talk about it to keep the deal for themselves. We'll see what happens, this was more or less a test...and it seems popular since other comapnies have jumped on board a day or two after we announced what we were doing.

I wanna sign up for Astraweb again, I loved their retention! Supernews 350 days is good, but Astra's retention is better! Hope Astra has a good deal too.

I'm not aware of any Astraweb deals coming beyond the $11/mo. and $96/yr. offers. We now have all the specials listed on the NGR home page. Some are already live and others go live in the next few hours.

This is already a good deal considering the quality of the items involved. Happy Thanksgiving!

I signed up for the UseNetNow $8.99/month deal.
So far I get some periods of high speed, then lots of periods of nothing transferring even though NewsBin has a bunch in the cue (some are just header downloads).
Maybe others have swamped the servers too. Going to give it a week or 2 to see if it improves.

Same here. My news client had a hard time establishing four connections and speeds are all over the place. Highest download speed I've been able to establish is 2.7Mbps, a far cry from the 8 or 9 average I can achieve with Astraweb. And judging by the looks of the activity I don't think adding more connections will improve anything.

I'll give it a couple weeks to see how things pan out.

Server was just restarted as there was some other behind the scenes performance problems as well. Interestingly enough, I am getting much better speeds with SSL than non. Got to monitor it right now.

EDIT-- Oh yes, thanks to all who signed up!
