| TIVO Is No Longer In My House My TIVO box died. The hard drive failed. To get a new hard drive (with software) was about $100.00. My subscription with TIVO is up in December. To renew would cost me $8.95 a month if I get a three year plan. And my TIVO would not handle HD.
To get a Comcast DVR is only $9.95 a month, a dollar more than TIVO charges. Plus I get the capability to handle HD. So over a three subscription period I will only spend $36.00 more. If I kept the TIVO I would have to pay $100+ to replace the hard drive. My net loss would be $64.00+ over the three year subscription period.
Plus if the Comcast box breaks I simply swap it out. No more repairs.
TIVO is loosing market share because their business model is being superseded by better alternatives. TIVO offers nothing the justifies the extra cost. TIVO needs to wake or they will cease to exist.
Anyone want to buy a dual standard tuner TIVO with a defunct disk drive? I didn't think so. |

| comcast ONLY guarantees that price for a year and not even that actually. If comcast raises it's dvr rate to $25 a month you will be paying comcast between 10 and 15 a month. Here somehow they are LOWERING the price of the comcast dvr from $22 a month to $16 a month. |

I rarely go beyond 10 hours of stored programming and that is only when I am out of town for a week. I see no need for massive storage of a hundred hours of programming. |

Even at $16.00 a year it will be cheaper than TIVO when you consider my hard drive only lasted 35 months. Purchasing a new TIVO that handles HD, which will require a cable card as the HD channels are digital, and the cost becomes even more significant. I find no advantage to TIVO. |

Interesting , replacing a tivo hdd is easy btw. But the box is useless anyway without a cable card slot now. Which was planned on by the cable companies.
Don't know about your area. But it's $16 for the dvr. $1 for the remote , and $10 for an "digital" outlet. Much cheaper then a tivo ? don't think so.
Cable card = free for me no added outlet fee or remote charges. Tivo is cheaper for me and shows on my bill every month. -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!" |

Although I guess that depends on the area. I know my brother recently expanded the capacity of both of his Comcast DVRs with an external extender. |
