Re: [DSL] Optimizing Connection • Make sure that the router and any SW firewalls are not blocking the pings. If you have a SW firewall what is it?
• I have been reading some stuff on the MTU for your ISP. It seems all over the map with every one having different cuts on things.
Try this:
Go to Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ Command Prompt and type the following:
ping -f -l 1472 www.dslreports.com (That is a dash lower case "L," not a dash "1." Also note the spaces in between the sections.)
Press Enter. Then reduce 1472 by 10 until you no longer get the "packet needs to be fragmented" error message.
What do you get on the above packet size ping through OK?
Note:If you can ping through with the number at 1472, you are done! Stop right there.
• Does your MODEM have a diagnostic page that shows your stats? Sync rats and signals? If so paste what you get. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |
