1 edit | Movie: The Red Balloon I found this odd French film from 1956. No dialogue, and won an Oscar for most original screenplay. The boy and girl in the film are the director's children. (More here.).

I remember in elementary and middle school they would play this film every year. Do others remember it?

| said by Jovi:We watched it a couple times, too. The control of the balloon (like it acted independently) must've taken a lot of effort.
The part where the boy climbs a light pole and stands on a ledge (10' off some stairs with no safety devices) stood out to me. If Hollywood did that today they'd be in trouble for child endangerment. (If they did it with an animal they'd be in trouble for animal abuse.).

1 edit | reply to amigo_boy Holy shit, you just gave me such a flashback to something I hadn't seen or even thought of in 20 years, or more. I'm going to have to bookmark this one for watch again tomorrow.

| reply to amigo_boy WOW!!! this is the ONLY movie I remembered from all we watched in middle school, I still remember bits and pieces of it and never forgot it after all these years,(only saw it once) but I remember it being a tear jerker, back then since they killed his balloon, so I remember shearing a tear or two at the time.
Always wondered about this movie, thanks a ton! |
