 | Astraweb slow? Several days ago I noted that us.news.... (or plain news...) was slow as shit (10mbps out of my 50)
At that time, switched to europe.news.... and speeds were fine.
Now once again, I'm trying to d/l, and both us.news, and news. are slow as shit like before.
I've tried several diff port (80, 23, 1818). Maybe this has been going on last sereral days?
Anyone else? |

| Does anything look funny when you run a traceroute from this page: »www.news.astraweb.com/tools/stats.html
If there is congestion you can request that Astraweb move you to a different backbone provider. I've had to do this before when I had less than spectacular speeds from them. |

1 edit | reply to jimboe I had problems with the North American servers a few days ago where I was also unable to max my connection. It was a temporary issue, it resolved itself within a few hours. But I ran a tracert and also got bad latency, seems like savvis is having issues. |

 | reply to jimboe Speeds are back to normal for us servers.
I did open a ticket with support BTW. They told me (unimpressively I might add) '..it may be fewer hops to your location..' (it's not) and so '..use the Europe server if it's working better for you..'

 | do you continue to have success with astraweb? i am finishing up with Giganews (too expensive) and thinking of going with astraweb, but I am reading about a lot of problems with them; some are about slow speeds, others are about broken and/or incomplete files. If you check out the forums at nzbmatrix you can read about this. |

darciliciousCyber LibrarianPremium join:2001-01-02 Forest Grove, OR kudos:1 | Maybe it's just what I'm downloading (weekly tv episodes) or the software I'm using (sabnzbd+) but I have had zero problems with astraweb. I've just signed up for my third block account... |
|
 | +1 for SABNZBD+
I might go the block acct route with Astraweb until the problems noted on the nzbmatrix forums have been cleared up (was considering their $96 annual deal) |
|
 | no prob since I started this thread. Networking issue has been rectified (router issue I think somewhere in the chain).
50mbps from the US servers again.
Haven't personally had anyb probs with broken/incomplete files, but I don't dl TB's per month either |

I'm totally satisfied with the service and speed I get with astraweb. Retention is over a year now and SSL is included. Save yourself a fortune and still get premium service from astraweb. I should add that there are incomplete files but that's why there're par files -- If Hamilton gets a NHL team then Toronto is going to want one too... |

In my experience Astraweb servers slow down every once in a while. I'm not sure if it's my ISP or astraweb at fault here. However, usually everything is back to normal within couple of days. Of course I'd prefer for a consistent experience, but I'm not too bothered by slow downs, since it's rare that I need to have this or that right now right this second. |

 | said by JazzJRabbit:... I'm not sure if it's my ISP or astraweb at fault here. ... (At least this time) The source of the slowdown was somewhere between my ISP and the US servers. The reverse trace quite clearly showed the hop where network lag originated.
It appeared to be a router having issues at one of the peering partners.
I agree with everything else in your comment. |

 | reply to jimboe Seems this astraweb service has a lot of down falls. |
|
 | I don't think so. I only started this thread because it seemed like an extended period of slowness ( > 1 day) and I wanted to see if it was only me.
Speeds have been quite fine (back to 50mbps) for couple of weeks now. |
