audi join:2007-07-02 Hamilton, ON | Overdue speed increase ! Are we not overdue for an upgrade in speeds ? Maybe Shaw has filed the Mountain Cable upgrade folder away for a year or two. |
|
 | I emailed them about a month or two ago and asked them if we were getting an increase. They said they had no plans for it. Whether Shaw will upgrade us now that they own MC remains to be seen. I imagine they would need to upgrade their architecture first to accommodate it. |

 | reply to audi Apon contacted Shaw tech support. I asked them if myself (mountain cable user) would be able to get the shaw internet packages etc.. His response was yes, Shaw has plans for this sometime in the future. Didn't say when though. That would be great |

| I sent off an email a few weeks ago asking them if they were planning to increase our speeds to what the rest of the shaw network gets on the other side of canada, and I recieved this response:
"Please bear with us while we update our system to offer this. We are hoping to be able to offer this within the year."
So hopefully sometime this year we will get this increase. Hopefully without the monthly cap that shaw has everywhere else, but I'm not holding my breath for that one... |

MarcerPremium,VIP join:2007-07-08 Hamilton, ON kudos:10 | My understanding is that Shaw has agreed to keep things "business as usual" for one year after purchasing, at which point I expect big changes (think speed increase, usage cap, overage charges, oh, and phone prices will go up) |

| Well, I just discovered that Bell offers their Fibe 25 to my address. At their speeds of 25/7, I'll be uploading as fast as my download is right now, and thats just delicious. Their price is reasonable as well, 53.95/mo, after taxes and modem rental and an extra 40gb of usage (for now til I decide to add more), comes to only 69.90 a month.
Waiting for Shaw to come out with their Warp service to us which has no estimated release, is still going to be using the Shaw price, of 96 dollars a month, and its only 25/2. Even if I chose to use the unlimited bandwidth option at Bell for an extra 30 dollars a month, its still cheaper than the 25/2 150gb cap service that Shaw would offer a year down the road.
So long Mountaincable. If you kept your internet service with the rest of the class maybe I wouldn't have been so eager to jump ship, now all they have me for is phone service, and that will likely change soon as well.
If you're like me and you want a good connection (for canada anyway), I highly suggest looking into Bell. I always thought they were the devil but this is just great. |

audi join:2007-07-02 Hamilton, ON | reply to audi More than a year has passed since Mountain Cable has increased the download speed the time has come for Shaw to give us 15 Mbps they offer other customers. Business as usual for one year is not acceptable, they should officially inform their Mountain Cable internet customers when an improvement will occur. We are now part of a large corporation that may give little priority to Shaw Hamilton. Bell Fibe 25/7 Mbps is an interesting package that I will switch to if Shaw does not offer more soon. |

MarcerPremium,VIP join:2007-07-08 Hamilton, ON kudos:10 | reply to audi Well all I can say is before you jump ship and sign that contract, be certain of what you are getting yourself into.
1. It's a contract, and it's in Bell's favour 2. It's "up to" 25/7 based on your line quality, and distance to your CO/Remote (DSLAM location), and 25/7 needs very good quality lines, and short distances. 3. Bell maintains the line up to the side of your house, and can charge for service calls, Mountain does not.
Personally, the only thing keeping me here is the points above and no bandwidth cap |

| Well..
1. This is not a contract. It's entirely open, there is no contract locking you in for anything. 2. They actually give your line a 29/8 connection to account for the signal loss and such, giving you an actual 25/7 connection. Every person I've seen with this connection talking about it has the full 25/7. Also, my house is pretty close to that stuff you're talking about I'm pretty sure. 3. I'm willing to chance a possible service call fee and get internet speeds that don't feel like their from 5 years ago.
Like I said before the no bandwidth cap was definately a nice thing with Mountain, but basically for the extra 30 bucks on top you can have unlimited bandwidth with bell, and the all inclusive price of everything is still on par or less expensive than the 25mbit connection Shaw would be providing anyways, and thats with a 150gb cap. |

| Just to close this off as my final post in the Mountaincable forum, I had the bell service installed today.

Upload is showin a tad slow but I've got some stuff running. Called mountain/shaw to cancel the internet today and they had it disconnected pretty much right away.
Also switching to Comwave for phone, cheaper, unlimited long distance. After being with Mountain for over 10 years its sad that it had to come to this, but their complete lack of caring to compete just drove the last nail in the coffin for me.
Take care. |

 | reply to audi i would have to agree with most of what is said here, i think that they are long overdue for a speed increase. I have a brother who lives in winnipeg and has shaw as his I.S.P and he has nothing but good things to say about them over their, however they offer a line that is not even comparible to what we have here.
I guess the bottom line is, when you run a business you probably dont want to be at the bottom of the line when it comes to what you are offering people, especially now that their are other options ( like bell for internet or satalite for tv )
sometimes just having good customer service is not enough , people always want a better product, especially when you know their is one available to you.
it reallly is sad knowing that this internet speed that shaw offers is still the same speed that most of hamilton was offering 10 years ago, yes 10 years ago, this is way below what i would consider the standard now a days, files are geting larger, vides are getting longer and shaw is not moving in the direction that i and probably most of you who are reading this think they should be . |
