Re: [xbox] Want to change my name.

Yep, I understand why people are upset you have to pay for it but... can you imagine how many times people would have changed their name if there wasn't a charge?
I play counterstrike on the PC and I think I've changed my name probably about 100 times! lol You could be playing with someone you've played with a million times, but not know it because both of you have changed your name. lol, trust me, it's happened quite a bit to me.
I think Microsoft did the right thing here, IMHO, I think it's a cooler community this way. I'll see someone I randomly played with a while ago, remember their name and then smack talk them some more! lol

I think the whole point of the charge is that they don't want poeple changing their names all the time, hence the charge.
It's a ripoff, plain and simple. Charging $10 to change your gamertag is as big a ripoff as paying $150 for a 120gb hard drive you can purchase for $100 less at any retail outfit. It cost them nothing to change the gamertag, it's an automated process (no human labor is involved).

It's just another way to make money. I've had the same tag since XBL launched, I ain't changing it for nobody.
I can see why they want to discourage the name changing all the time. Get a boatload of bad feedback? Change your name and keep going.

As for the gamertag, I have kept the same one also and am close to being a Tier 7.

Is that number on the top of your gamertag not just the number of years you've had that account?

I think they just leave an out for you if you created your account without the intent on taking it online. Let's say you created a silver account first, so you just picked a name like "Joe12345" and now that you want to upgrade to a gold membership you start thinking... that name sucks!
Or like you say, bad feedback, new name. However, I think if you change your name everything else about your account stays.. including feedback? No? I'm not too sure on this one. However, a buddy of mine had a "questionable" name and Xbox forced him to change it after about a year of using it. I think enough people complained about his name. And when he changed it everything was still there, like his "this many people preffered you, and this many people did not like you" areas.

Who knows?

Everything be the name stays the same, however but sure to send out a head ups to the people on the friends list, they're quick to delete names they don't recognize.

@ ptrowski See Profile I didn't know the 360 had support for WoW

I never meant to cause an uproar, I'm just voicing my opinion that it's is overpriced. Also, I've got nothing against a company making a profit, but some of the ways they choose to do so are ridiculous. Specifically, the way they made their own connector for the hard drives so they can charge an inordinate amount for them. A 120gb hard drive for the Xbox 360 costs about $150, yet a quick search of Newegg shows 4 160gb HD's for $54.99. If Dell shipped PC's with a proprietary HD connector that could only be purchased through Dell or their "authorized retailers" there would be hell to pay, but since it's on a video game console MS get's a pass.

Not really the case. Many companies go the proprietary route (Apple for one comes to mind). I wouldn't call the responses in this thread an "uproar". We're keeping civil in here aren't we?

There is nobody forcing you to upgrade your hard drive for the xbox (although I am always deleting and adding files to my tiny 20GB drive). Do I think it is way too much for what they charge on the HD? Yes. Did I go out and buy one? No. I voted with my wallet, I don't see how that is a problem for other consumers as well.

I think the controller prices are a bit more out of line since you need them to operate the console in the first place, but they are nice controllers! LOL!

Exactly. I am glad they are doing this to make sure people aren't just switching like crazy.

Pick a name and stick w/ it

If you need to change, pay a bit...nothing wrong with that
