Re: Network Drive Suggestion? I use a D-Link DNS-323 with two Samsung HD501LJ 500 GB SATA drives running in RAID 1 and am very happy with it - but the total cost was closer to $400 for the whole thing.

I installed it a couple years ago - if I had to do it over again, I'd probably use 1 TB drives (or larger) - although I have yet to fill up what I have.
I use it just as a normal drive on all my household computers. I have a 1 GB Ethernet home LAN, so access speeds are quite good. I use it as a storage drive and to stream media to my computers and to a PS3 and a D-Link DSM-520 (Networked media player).
The DNS-323 comes with a functional UnPnP media server but I use a third party player I like better - Twonkey Media Server »www.twonkymedia.com/
Here's a link to the DNS-323 wiki: »wiki.dns323.info/ - there's a lot of information on hacks. The DNS-323 runs on a Linux platform, so there's lots you can do with it - beyond the intended purposes. |
