Re: Any ideas about how long before USB 3 on Dell? It's a well known fact that USB 1.* and 2.0 are software-dependent for I/O operations (meaning, they ride the CPU) vs. hardware-based I/O like in Firewire. -- Front Line Force Fortress Forever |

Maybe those few % it would matter slightly if you're running something else that's using your whole CPU like encoding or simulations, but the vast majority aren't doing that and even if you are the usage is slight.
Same goes for integrated audio. This isn't 2002 anymore a bit of audio processing doesn't use a significant amount of a modern CPU.
The only people who care are purists who care on some sort of ideological level rather than a practical one. Most people care about results: can I plug most things into it and will it go fast. USB is way ahead on the first one and also the second one when USB3 hits. Most people's CPUs are sitting idle most of the time anyways. Actually it makes sense to use the CPU and make the other hardware cheaper. |

 Read | Write |
also correction after re reading the review it ever even REGISTERED ANY CPU USAGE
the 6% i saw was for just random screen shot of the benchmark lol uploaded there screen shots note CPU usage is ZERO zero CPU usage and 100MB/s Read/writes on an external drive seems win/win to me |

| A 0% CPU usage is a tad suspicious. Yes, one possibility is a usage under 1% (or more precisely, under 0.5%), but the other one is that the program can't measure it accurately.
I don't know much about the finer details of USB 3, but even assuming some serious HW assist, I'd still expect to see *some* CPU usage. -- And the winner is: |

elios join:2005-11-15 Springfield, MO 1 edit | well seeing as 2 different aps are showing 0 my guess is its under 1% also the testing was on an i7 and thats usage over all 8 threads so it could easily be 1% on one core point still is CPU use is extremely low |
