How does your Town plan to finance the fiber build? How does your Town plan to administer and maintain the infrastructure? What about the rural areas that this article is about? Does your Town plan to invest money in the surrounding farmlands outside of it's municipal limits out of the kindness of its heart?
I think it sounds like a nice Utopian concept, but there are many more details that need to be worked through.
I live in East Greenville PA, inbetween Allentown, Pottstown and Quakertown. FIOS just recently made it all the way up to Green Lane. Where's that? Even more out in the sticks than East Greenville but we are not in the plans any time soon for it according to one of the lcoal Verizon guys I recently spoke to. Comcrap still rules the roost.
reply to openbox9 I really don't know how any Town plans to finance such a thing. But I keep Reading about Town that want to set up their own FTTH solution and I think why would a town want to get into the Cable TV business. But if they Build it and let all the Cable companies connect into it without Franchies exclusivity you suddenly have True compitition. I want world peace too... so.. your right kinda Utopian LOL.
many states don't have the city franchse law anymore. its done with the states. but its very $$$$$$$$$$$$$ to over build. that's why other provider's will NOT do it. ask RCN why they haven't expanded or even WOW -- www.two-pugs.com www.2pugs.etsy.com
