Re: Data Usage Meter Launched

I got the email here in Albuquerque this morning. Went to customer central and no meter?? The message I get says the meter is not available for this account. Note, I was using the master account.

I guess the email was a wee bit premature!

Are you logging in with the primary account? If not, you need to. If so, go into the Comcast Direct forum at »Comcast Direct for help.

Yes, I was using the Primary acct, also one other account that has unrestricted access. It happens in both Firefox 3.6 and IE 8. Will post in the Comcast Direct forum....

Lakewood CO looks to be up as well. They have my usage back to December.

The link to Customer Central is certainly NOT THE CORRECT HOST FOR THIS METER.

The correct host for the meter, is the user's page at »www.comcast.net , and should be available every user, not just the primary on the account. Comcast has all of the user information for each user on a given account.

Placing the meter link on the help pages accessible from comcast.net is more consistent with all of the other account information available from comcast.net

Using Customer Central, a link that likely nobody uses to any extent is, well, just plain wrong.

Mine as well, do you know how well the data matches up with your actual usage? Mine makes no sense.

Comcast's web presence is so badly constructed already, that this could be a step forward in unifying its byzantine web sites into something usable.

I refer you to the Comcast Customer Central link to the help site for Xfinity on which the help topics are inverted. The "What is Xfinity?" link is at the bottom of the list, rather than at the top of the list as is traditional. This is a prime example of the lack of attention to detail and respect that Comcast is showing for its users. You know, the USERS THAT ARE PAYING YOUR BILL AND CONTRIBUTING TO YOUR PROFITS.

Comcast management should check that their web programmers are not in the janitor's closet, eating Cheetos and drinking Mountain Dew, while they play online games or watching porn movies on their laptops.

Data meter is live for me as well. However it's SIGNIFICANTLY lower than my measured usage via DD-WRT. This can't be good..

Weird, for whatever reason I think Comcast has significantly UNDERestimated my data usage...»i40.tinypic.com/of7dvm.jpg

DD-WRT says I used a lot more in the past months, though I guess I'm about right for this month.

Does DD-WRT ignore local traffic? I was metering locally as well, but found that it was catching anything that went through the router not just in from the modem. Just saying this may be the difference.

I actually don't have a ton of local traffic on my network (some, but not a ton) and DD-WRT's meter is on the WAN tab, suggesting to me that it does indeed only measure internet-bound traffic, which is what Comcast would see as well.

So to my fellow BeanTowners - I'm curious, is the meter showing about the usage you expected? Either of you anywhere over say 150?
Late reply to your question, but my Comcast meter shows 63Gb for Feb, and I'm 16% into my 250Gb for March. This seems consistent with the other net-meter software I had been using. I usually average 40-70Gb/mo.

Is DD-WRT excluding broadcast traffic coming in on the WAN interface?

The Comcast meter should only be counting unicast frames, which would explain the difference.

Strange thing...... I don't have a data usage meter anymore? I checked it last week and it was fine, but now it's disappeared for some reason......did they move it somewhere else? It used to be in the "Users & Settings" tab, but now it's gone...anyone else having this problem?

EDIT: opppps.....Just checked it again, and now it's back. Maybe they were updating it at the time I checked earlier.....But it's back now.

Looks like the meter is now available in the Atlanta market.
