| Cheap home phone number
I have vonage but don't use it much so it's not worth $25 for me. All I really need is a phone number that can receive calls.
Any suggestions?
Is there any web service that will give you a local number and email you when you get a call?
I just need something cheap. |

@embarqhsd.net | reply to Donnie74 I don't get how google voice works. It looks like it can only receive calls and send them to whatever phone you want so know one knows your real number? |

$0.99/mo for the number, and $0.01/min for usage based on 6 second billing increments. (ie, a 6 second incoming call would be billed at 1/10th of a penny) |

| Agree about VOIP.MS. If he gets a lot of incoming, he can go for their monthly flat incoming rate ($4.95 - $6.95 a month up to 3,500 minutes). I'm unsure of the notification by e-mail thing.
If he's insistent with Vonage, he can get their $4.99 a month customer-on-hold plan. Unlimited incoming but per minute charges for outgoing. But count on about $4 of added monthly fees.
Then there's my tried-and-tested plan of keeping a T-Mobile Gold Rewards pay-as-you-go cellphone plan. Once $100 is added, only $10 is needed to extend your minutes for another year. Cheap to do, if the sole purpose is to save a number and just use the voice mail. But no e-mail notifications if a message is left. |

1 edit | reply to Donnie74 Here is a dirt cheap plan:
1. Get a free CallCentric (IPFreedom) account (or a free Future-Nine account). 2. Get a free IPKall pstn number local somewhere in the state of Washington. Forward the IPKall number to your CallCentric number (or your F9 number). Now someone can call the IPKall number and it will ring your phone registered to your CallCentric (or F9) account. 3. Now, as described by OmagicQ, get a GoogleVoice number by obtaining a GV Invite. Forward the GV number you select to your IPKall number. You will need to validate the GoogleVoice forwarding with the IPKall number. Google Voice will provide VoiceMail on unanswered calls to your GV number. Now Google Voice will send you an email if you receive something in their VoiceMail.
Now, if you wish to make an outgoing call to the U.S. with GoogleVoice you can start it from your GoogleVoice web page. GoogleVoice will call you back (using your IPKall number) and then complete the other leg of the call. These outgoing calls are free at the present time. You can also make international calls for a per minute fee.
Edit: For a step up, you can substitute one of CallCentric's "dirt cheap DID" incoming numbers for the IPKall number. |

I just need something cheap. It depends. What percentage of the time do you need the incoming call to go through? |

I left Vonage and have service with them and Callcentric. Couldn't be happier. |

| reply to Donnie74 I have the $17.99 vonage plan and somehow after taxs it comes to $25.
I only get a few calls maybe 5 a month sometimes 10 with telemarketers once in a blue moon.
If i could take my vonage number that would be great.
Family and friends all know my cell, i need a number to give my work and for when they ask when you buy something cause i know it will get sold. |

| reply to Donnie74 Thanks for the help, i checkd out
sipgate.com has no local # for me Voip.ms has no local # for me Callcentric HAS my local town #
Even Vonage does not have my local town, i would drop my vonage number if i could get my local town.
Callcentric says they can get it in 1 day. What would i need to do signup for the Pay per Min Incoming plan?
Its only $1.95, i wonder what it would be with tax added on?

@comcast.net | Yeah it says my local # is (USUALLY AVAILABLE IN 1 DAY)
I just checked my vonage min used, i used 4 min last month not worth $25 at all lol
I haven't had a local number since i had a landline a few years back.
Thanks again. |

| reply to Donnie74 It's no secret that I like CallCentric.
Please do be aware, though, that sometimes a DID can take longer.
The word "usually" does not mean "always".
Especially if several other carriers don't seem to have DID's in a particular town. Something weird there.
In my view, lots of customer anger comes from having unrealistic expectations. |

| reply to Donnie74 If they can't get my local number I may just give google voice a try. CallCentric charged $3 for e911 fee when I signed up. If that's wha it is every month that puts me at $4.95 without any usage.
I'll be surprised if they can get my local number since no one else can. |
|
PX Eliezer Premium join:2008-08-09 New Jersey | No, the e911 fee is $ 1.50 a month, comparable to many other providers. Some providers charge separately, others build it in to their total price.
The other $ 1.50 was the one-time setup fee.
Good luck. |
