Digital Cable Keeps Blacking Out..Hello:
I'm having an issue with my digital cable. I don't know how long this has been going on as I don't watch TV that often. For the past few weeks though, every so often (maybe every 20 minutes or so), my cable cuts out for a second. The screen either goes black, or like how the old porn channels used to be scrambled. I've been ignoring it, but it's getting annoying and I keep missing parts of speech during a show.
There's one other cable box in my house, but I don't know if it's happening on that one, as I don't watch it. I'll try and find out.
If there some steps I should take to try and fix this? Maybe some kind of reset to the box?
Thanks. |

Is it happening with every channel or specific channels? Are you experiencing some artifacting on various channels as well? |

It happens with any channel. The sound cuts out as well, as I can notice it when I have my music channels on. No artifacting as far as I know, just the random "BLARGH" of data screw-up. I've asked the other members of my household, and they told me they were getting the same thing on our other box. |

Call tech support and book a service call, if its happening on more than 1 TV you need a tech out. |

I would call a tech, except it's random. They're just going to come out, say they see nothing wrong after looking at my TV for a few minutes, then charge me for the call out. That's what they always did when my Internet would be randomly cutting in and out. |

If your digital box is a DVR you can record the symptoms onto the hard drive. If it's not a DVR just connect it up through a VCR/DVD recorder and get a recording of the problem when it happens. Then you can play it back for the tech when he's at your home. |

That's what they always did when my Internet would be randomly cutting in and out. Just because it's random doesn't mean they won't be able to find something. I was having a trouble with outgoing voice on digital phone which turned out to require a new modem. But the tech measured signal levels and discovered that they were absolutely crap at all of our cable drops and determined it was the line running to the house that had been compromised. So in troubleshooting one problem they actually discovered a different serious problem that they were able to correct. |
