Privacy Is Your Responsibility Too

Someone who uses a cell phone, which by its very nature communicates your location to the phone company, and then complains about a lack of privacy, is being silly.

If you really value your privacy that much, don't use a cell phone, period.

Re: Privacy Is Your Responsibility Too

There is a difference between cell tower triangulation which can be as precise as few hundred meters in radius and GPS which is closer to 10 meters.

My GPS is accurate to within 6 feet. That is 5 times better than what you state.

It doesn't matter how accurate the technology is, the point is that people still have control over their privacy in this regard. They can either choose to not use a cell phone, or take out the battery when they are not using it.

Using a cell phone means that you will make your location known to the phone company. There's no way around it.

yes, I'd like to see people with iPhones or technologically inept people (or often both) take the battery out. Also there is a difference between the phone company knowing which tower(s) is serving your phone (this is needed for your phone to work) and your phone continuously sending your GPS coordinates in an unsolicited way (this is not needed for your phone to work).

Oh well. Sucks to be them. If they were that worried about privacy then they should have made a more informed decision prior to buying said phones.

Of course there is, but that doesn't change the fact that if you do use your phone, the cell company is going to at the very least know the location of the tower you're on. That pretty much eliminates any "privacy" at that point.
