| WARNING watch out for outrageous web site shipping charges. If you want to purchase something from a website and the price quoted for that item seems to good, it just might be. I wanted to purchase Nine expansion handsets for a cordless telephone system. A major department store website offered the handsets for $19.99 each. That was a good price, the MSRP was $24.95. The shipping cost was not. The store wanted $7.99 per handset to ship the merchandise or a total cost of $71.91 for shipping merchandise that cost $179.91. I recently tried to order an item from a computer products website, the cost for shipping exceeded the cost of the item.
The new scam appears to be advertising a low item price and increasing profits with outrageous shipping charges. There is an indication that there is a problem is when you see the same high shipping cost for each item. The fair way to charge for shipping is to charge a fixed fee for handling and then calculate the shipping charge based on the weight and shipping method. Apparently these weasels are using the same techniques that the communication industry is using. Advertise a low price and then hit the customer with outrageously high below line fees and charges. |

| That's what I love about woot.com. If you order something, the shipping fee is $5.00. Order a pen that costs $2.00, shipping is $5. If you order a 65" LCD TV, the shipping is $5. If you order multiples of an item (they only allow up to three) it's still just $5 to ship all of them.
1saleaday.com is also pretty good, but no fixed shipping fee and you pay the same shipping fee for each item. Usually $5 or less per item. Yugster.com varies from $3 to $5. They will sometimes give discounts on shipping fees for multiple items. -- DSL Extreme 6.0
