Augustus IIIIf Only Rome Could See Us Now.... join:2001-01-25 Gainesville, GA | oh dear A lot of paid cronies roam these forums. Most of them are already retired, and pissed they cant figure out what is even going on.
so lets get to how you people REALLY feel:
not paying for music you wouldnt buy anyway = child porn
remember kids, when you dont pay to listen to tranny gaga's latest synthesized track, a child is abused somewhere in the world.
when you watch twilight, a kitten is murdered in cold blood in latin america.
think of the children and kitties, you pervert downloaders!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are destroying society!!!
the riaa has been screaming foul for 12 years now but you would think they realized by now that people will buy something if they want. those who get it for free, wouldnt pay for it anyway because they never wanted it bad enough in the first place.

So if someone doesn't want it why get it free anyway? You are heading down the same myopic line of reasoning as the entertainment industry bean counters. You think that the only way to extract value out of a work of art is the sale of that actual work as many times as possible. You are wrong.
Have you ever stopped to consider, for example, that a person who downloaded a movie is essentially free targeted quality advertisement? You must know that movie studios actually do this already via private screenings to select groups of people - usually press- so that they can generate buzz for a movie.
I ask you, what is the difference between a person working for the media spreading buzz for a movie he saw on a private screening and a regular person spreading it to his circle of friends and relatives after downloading it?
In fact, the buzz generated by the person who downloaded the movie carries more weight to influence his circle of acquaintances than the journalist because these people already know and are thus more likely to trust the opinion of this person. As opposed to going by the word of some random journalist who may or may not be honest about his opinion of the movie. And there have been plenty of cases of journalists paid to give favorable reviews and dupe consumers into seeing a movie.
So you understand now why studios are worried?. They are sacred shitless of not being able to peddle the usual crap to consumers so they can line their pockets between blockbuster releases because word will spread like wildfire if it sucks. They cannot go out and buy out the general viewing public's opinion like they can buy the opinions of a few influential journalists.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, because no one is that stupid to purposely confuse a finite material good with a work of art that once created has infinite duration. Even if you really believe this, It's ok tho. Your myopic way of thinking will soon die off. Give it less than a decade so that all those who grew up with file sharing outnumber the people with your way of thinking. You'll be remembered with pitty and laughter just like we remember the people who protested the automobile.

| | If people download something and they like it, they will most likely buy it. So its not a lost sale all the time. Its just that most of the stuff isn't really worth buying in the first place and most movies are only "watch once" type of deals. The money you save by downloading, can be put to better uses such as "food". | |
