 | Centurylink XBOX live chat & party problem?? Hey guys
Here is the problem...Me and a buddy are having issues connecting to each other over xbox live. Meaning private chat, party and playing a game won't work. At first we thought it my be game related(Modern Warfare 2), but the fact that private chat or parties won't even working points away from that. I live Troy, MO and my buddy lives in O'Fallon, MO.
Here some TSing we have done... 1. I am able to join a party and private chat with others on my friends list, all of which are not Centurylink cust. 2, My friend is able to joins a party and private chat with other on his friends list. One being the same guy that I joined in with. 3. We are both able to join online games of Modern Warfare 2 with other people on our friends list. 4. We port forwarded TCP 80, 53, 3074 & UDP 88, 53, 3074 in our modems and routers. 5. Setup a DMZ for the IP of the Xbox, so there are no firewall rules affecting it.
We still need to see if we can join a game hosted by a friend not on Centurylink. I have not put my 360 directly to the modem either, need to try that. Hopefully soon I can take my 360 over to my parents house and test, they are running on Charter.
Another note, We both had original Pro consoles that died about a month ago. He has a new Arcade and I have a new Elite. I just got my new 360 about a week ago which was the first time we tried to connect on Live. We were able to play and chat on live before our new consoles as well.
I am on the 10M DSL and so is my buddy. I have been having speed issues where I was only getting 1-2M down. A Centurytel tech came out and check the lines and all was good. He did say there was some issue only affecting 10M and 20M customers. He thought it was a software issue that was causing a bottleneck. Not sure if any of that is true. My speeds seem to be ok now.
Could this be a Centurylink issue? If so what can be done?
Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks! |

| It sounds like a configuration problem. Maybe my understanding of DMZ is wrong, but I thought placing the ip of a device as DMZ means it is fully open to the internet. If that is true, no port forwarding is required.
I have no experience setting up an Xbox, how do you connect, by ip, name, etc. If you can enter an ip address in they can change often depending on how the connection is setup. If you need to track the ip changes of each others connections, setup an account with someone like »www.dyndns.com/
With this you can enter a name and it will resolve to your homes connection. -- Ofallon, Mo Weather St. Peters, Mo Weather |

 | I do need to setup dyndns. I will do that tonight.
I see what you are saying about the DMZ. The only thing is I am able to connect with others that are not on Centurylink. This is with and without the DMZ setup. If it was a config issue on my side I shouldn't be able to connect to live or other players. We were also both able to connect about a month ago with our old 360 consoles and the same routers and router configs.
I know NAT can be an issue, we both have open NAT. |

| Any luck? I was thinking about this tonight at work, all I could come up with is the wrong ip either entered or resolved.

 | So I brought my 360 to my parents house, they are on a Charter circuit. I connected to Live and was able to party up and join a game with the person I couldn't while on CenturyLink.
I contacted support at CenturyLink and was sent up the the IT rescue support. Only thing they suggested was change DNS and try putting the modem in bridge mode. I find it hard to believe that it is a DNS issue. And I doubt bridging the modem will solve anything.
It sucks that I am going to have to cancel CenturyLink since they can't fix their issue. |

 | I'm just outside of Troy, Missouri and don't have any problems connecting to XBOX Live using centurytel's DSL on a Netgear DGN2000 modem/router. My guess it that the router on century's modem provided to you isn't xbox live compatible (hence the need to use bridge mode). »support.xbox.com/support/en/us/n···ent.aspx |

 | The problem is not connecting to XBL. The problem is partying up, chat, and gaming with another person who is also on CentruyTel.
Bridging the modem is worth a shot. I will try that tonight. The thing is I have had ZERO problems with XBL before. I have had CentruryTel for over 3 years now. |

 | SUCCESS!!
Put the modem in bridge modem and setup the router for PPPoE. My friend did not make any changes to his setup. As long as it's working we're not going to change anything |

Once you put your modem in bridge mode, unplug both your modem and router. Wait a few minutes...then plug in your modem and wait for the DSL light to stay solid. Once it's solid, plug in your router. The internet light will disappear once your modem is in bridge mode as that is normal. |

 | reply to stlbluezfan2 Have you run the connectivity test in Xbox 360? Chances are, you've got a "STRICT NAT" . Bridging the modem would probably fix that, if anything bridging it would leave the NAT to your router itself meaning and routing/port forward issues would controlled only by your router. |
