Re: Certainly would be nice if I could get it.

Welcome to the year 2000. Honestly, it's best to just get cable and forget about AT&T and their garbage.

Even if you get served, it won't be long until you get some random line issue that knocks everything out that will take weeks to fix. Their excuse will be that the phone works, so you are low priority.

And cable companies are any better?

My neighbors are dropping cable at an alarming rate to get U-verse. That says to me that something about Mediacom isn't keeping them happy. The reliability I have had with AT&T has been great. When I had Comcast at my old house, I had a lot more issues than I have had with AT&T, DSL and U-verse. There is only 1100 ft of copper wire between my house and the neighborhood VRAD, I don't see where too much will go wrong with it, at lease on a regualr basic. So far, there has been no issues with line quality in my neighborhood in 3 years. With U-verse and also DSL, my speeds have been a lot more consistent than I had with cable, and more reliable. Cable plant does fail also.

If Comcast didn't have crap HD and a crap HD DVR, I would. In my area, the best HD is actually provided by satellite companies, which is sad. I wish Uverse were available....but thats neither here nor there.

Camelot One is right, cable companies are normally poor. I have Comcast for internet for the next 6 months though because they have faster internet than what AT&T can offer me on DSL. I hate their customer service, but at least their service in my area is solid as a rock.

AFAIK none of the U-verse deals are intro type deals, but I could be wrong. Cable is famous for those.

My opinion after being a customer of both, and watching the forums carefully, is that both cable and AT&T suck, but in different ways, and customer experiences vary widely. My advice is to find something that works for you and stick with it until it doesn't any more, then switch. I know that sounds like insipid advice but I think it actually works.

My personal journey started with cable TV + Internet and POTS, and ended with U-verse Internet and VoIP, and still cable TV. I'm quite satisfied right now because I know the failings of both and can deal with them, and I'm getting reasonably good service.

this deal is an intro price. Many of the deals ATT pushes when going door to door are intro deals.

Cable maybe famous for the intro deal but at least during that you won't see your rate go up, like ATT has done countless times since being in the cable business again, even after they claim prices would go down.

ATT also only got the customers they did before the new year due to telling them that their cable TV service wouldn't work due to the digital change over. They'd get them worried they'd lose their services since cable wasn't doing anything about the change, and then found out in Feb. that CableTV is still around.

Come to Ohio and find out how many customers have left ATT to go back to Cable. Especially in the Toledo and Cleveland markets. Both cities HATE ATT and support the cable companies.

AT&T seems do be doing quite nicely with U-verse. They are pretty much growing as fast as they can install. They passed the 2 millionth customer recently according to the press release.

Like I said, they both suck in different ways, and people should find out what works for them.

I take with a grain of salt anyone who makes generic statements like "U-verse sucks! Anyone with a brain should just get cable!" or vice-versa.

2million isn't much when you compare their entire foot print with who will or will not get service.

Many of their customers only get the service due to being stuck with them or they signed a deal they have to keep them or they repay the $200 back they got on that "gift" card.

Also you believe everything ATT has to say in their press releases?

Sounds like it. But then again, you're a customer.

Dude. Come on. You're being ridiculous.

Information about number of subs is audited financial information that affects stock prices. Any company that lies about things like that ends up having CEOs/CFOs go to jail. It doesn't happen very often, and I think the chances of it happening with AT&T are non-existent.

Also, I'm not going to take the time to research it, because you are obviously biased and it wouldn't make any difference. But the last time I checked, AT&T's rate of signing up customers versus the number of homes passed was right up there with the industry, if not better.

One of my neighbors that just got U-verse installed was in the middle of an intro deal from Mediacom when they dropped it. Once again, I wonder why they would do that if it weren't for a significant problem. I haven't had a chance to talk to them directly about why they dropped Mediacom, I just know they did after about 3 months with Mediacom and after getting a one year deal from them. Otherwise, the intro deals that U-verse is offering isn't as drastic as what Mediacom is offering, but U-verse seems to be getting plenty of takers in my neighborhood.

I had better experience before AT&T took over Bellsouth. As of late, my AT&T DSL has been acting up. DNS timeouts, low thruput, dropped connections, etc. Usually a power cycle of the modem resolves the problem. I never had these issues as frequently now as I did when it was just BellSouth.
Comcast is my other option and I'm seriously considering going with them. Unfortunately, they are a small subsidiary of Comcast.

One further note: People leaving cable for U-verse could have to do with U-verse's superior picture quality to cable and their more robust HD channel lineup. I have witnessed the PQ from Mediacom and Comcast HD, and U-verse is better. Also, Mediacom and Comcast lag behind U-verse on channel selection. Also, not all channels being offered on Mediacom and Comcast's cable systems in this area are digital yet. Also with cable, you get the nice, bulky, slow responding receiver box. I have had both cable and U-verse, as well as DirecTV, and I have to say that U-verse is a winner for me at this time. There are things about it that could improve, but that sure as heck goes for cable.

I had the opposite experience -- I'm in Austin with Time Warner Cable and I found TWC to be superior in HD picture quality. (However U-verse has superb SD quality.) I guess it just depends on where you are coming from. I've seen lots of posts from Comcast customers saying U-verse was better than Comcast.

Also TWC's HD lineup was comparable to U-verse's. U-verse is particularly bad at sports packages. Unless things have changed recently, they still don't carry the NBA TV channel or the NBA League Pass package.

So, I kept TWC for TV but have U-verse for Internet and Voice. What I did was call TWC and tell them "Hey these U-verse people have everything you have for TV at price XXX!" And they matched it.

just because they sign up the customer doesn't mean they keep the service. very long. that's the point. Also what do they have to do to earn that customer? I'm sure they'll tell that customer anything they want to hear. ATT isn't all that good.

And biased? you sound like it yourself. And ATT going to jail? Lets see, they have committed several felonies in this country against Americans, and non-americans and yet the same people are still there in their seats.

I don't see them going anywhere. Also who do you think has one of the largest contracts for the gov't? It's surely not Qwest.

That's false. There has not even been a hint, much less a charge, of criminal action against AT&T for the "wiretapping" stuff (which is what I assume you're talking about), by either the Bush or Obama administrations.

All that ever happened was a civil lawsuit which is not a criminal "felony" charge. That lawsuit has been dismissed.

It may be your OPINION that crimes were committed. That does not equal facts.
