Re: Wouldn't switch

Yeah, I have a BB Bold, and I would never pay more than what the current data plan costs, so if my current usage would make the price higher, cancel city here I come.

Seems like with phone carriers it is always so-so. Can anyone really say one is the best, each has issues I think.

Just not sure what other carrier to use: Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint...ugh. Plus I would not want some cheesy phone, it has got to be really good.

BB Bold 2 (9700) is on AT&T and T-Mobile. Is that considered "cheesy"?

For what it's worth, I tested two BB9700s on AT&T and T-Mobile in my office. Both have 3g reception although AT&T kept fluctuating wildly from 1 bar to all bars until it reverted to EDGE with all bars. Even with EDGE at all bars, data download and browsing from the default browser was terrible on AT&T. Even EDGE timed out several times and spent 30-45 seconds not downloading at all and then downloading for about 10 seconds. Terrible. My experience was the exact opposite with T-Mobile. Again: identical device, 3g available with both carriers. AT&T representative checked and there were no outages or issues in the area at that time. The only reason why AT&T's data network was so shitty is that it is oversubscribed.

FWIW, the default browser on the blackberry, any blackberry, is terrible. It's slow on the storm 2 with wifi that speed tests at 7 mbps.

with an apples to apples comparison, it doesn't matter too much.

That browser is god awfully slow regardless of network. Whether it is on a 6 mbps wifi connection with 1 ms pings to the router or when I am getting 100 kbps, my speeds are always the same. They are limited by the god awful blackberry browser.

It is well known that the browser is awful. It will be the bottleneck, always, when used on any modern network.

So? He's comparing the two networks using identical phones under the same conditions (same "terrible" browser).

Why would T-Mobile be faster compared to AT&T under the same conditions? It's the network.

sometimes it will take 20 seconds, and sometimes 50 seconds to load the same page with this browser with the phone in the same position in the same 5 minute time window . Opera will not have such differences, it'll take 10 seconds then 12.

The default browser is not consistent even on the same network.
