| reply to wth My local NBC affiliate KWQC mentioned the problem tonight on the 10pm news. Just like in the other places mentioned earlier in this thread, the e-mail transition being clogged with spam was given as the reason and that Mediacom was working on alternatives if they can't get the problem solved soon. -- Humanity - The greatest natural disaster of all time. |

 | reply to wth I have been a Mediacom customer for around 10 years. First in Knoxville Ia and now in Cedar Rapids. Cable, phone, internet..the works. This has been the biggest hiccum-up they've ever had.
And it's E-Mail!!! Good grief. If you are spending your time b!tching about not getting email..pick up the phone!! Your perfect INTERNET access hasn't been affected has it? What would happen if you couldn't get here to b!tch about your email? WELL..you wouldn't have access to the internet huh!! And if you based your business around using Mediacom email..USE THE PHONE!! Talk to your customers.
I'm a techie slave for 15 yrs. It's what I do for a living. They made a switch on their email servers and it's obviously not working out as planned. I made the switch to mail.mediacombb.net for the servers. Didn't change ports..because that's what the mediacom dude said here (not gonna backtrack but I appreciate the info) The people from mediacom that come here..you have my sympathy..and respect.
A word of advice. If you have 500 emails in your Inbox..you will get them again!! Be organized and if you don't need it..delete it. Otherwise it stays on the servers and will be re-delivered during this process. Bottom line is you won't lose anything..anything you sent will be delivered..and anything you already have will be re-delivered.
It will all work out..and you won't give it a second thought come next Weds. And if your business counts on email?? Search for an email business account.
Geezz..wore me out. Sh!t..this 12 pages is like the roads on 380.; |

I've been a customer just as long as you have. Their DNS transition, a few years ago, must have escaped you. It was a hot topic on this forum that impacted many customers and flooded call centers. |
|
 | reply to Dave Wiliams 15 years huh? and in those 15 years did you ever implement a new system on production servers with out first doing an in house beta? and then rolling it out one server at a time just in case there was problems? because, last i checked, that was SOP for most tech business.. as for telling some one basically not to use mediacom mail, guess what? its what they pay for and they have every dang right to b!tch about it. more so if they have a business account that some people "insist" gives them a better service experience. |
|
 | reply to wth they say that if things are not fixed this weekend then they will try to find an alternate solution. Ummmm, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it SOP to have a back-out plan. They have done so many thing wrong here that it could be used as a case study of what NOT to do. |

If I were just shooting the sh!t with my friends this would be no big deal, but when everything you do nowadays is handled by email and email confirmation it is a problem. Paying my bills, transfering money, etc., etc. It is an important product now. And don't get me started on the people who say it is free, it is like saying I am not invoiced specifically for the guide on the cable box, but it is included in the price as a service given with their product that makes said product better and more useful. |

 | reply to wth Just a quick note for Outlook 2007 users. I was getting fed up with the Mediacom email issue so I decided to go ahead and setup my Gmail acct. in Outlook. When I finished, I went back to do another check of my profile for Mediacom email in Outlook and tried using the "Repair" option. Interestingly, it actually fixed the connection issues and I can now send email with no errors. (Was able to receive all along.) Bottom line, I don't know why me putting the settings in manually didn't work but having Outlook perform a "repair" did (used the same settings I put in) but it is all working now. |

Emails that were sent to me yesterday are arriving in dribs and drabs. Oh well, could be worse. BTW, I'm still using the old servers with Thunderbird 3.0. |
|
 | Interesting~ could not send this morning with 'new settings' so I changed back to 'original settings' and it sends right away! I'm sure this may change many times before they actually get it fixed though. |

| reply to wth I tried send/receive first thing this morning using the new settings with no luck. I switched back to the old settings and both send and receive seem to be working. I still cannot ping either the new server or the old. Maybe they set the servers up to reject pings or they are cycling on and off. |

I get this on Mac OSX Mail v2 (OS X Tiger) I'm using the settings referenced in the other thread Anyone have a fix or will this get taken care of when they finish the other problem fixing it? |

 | reply to wth i truly dislike the new mediacom email 1) it take three steps to get to my email whereas before it took one
2) i have to enter my complete email address including @mchsi.com. how dumb is that
3) my emails no longer display the graphics embedded in them
4) i now receive a ton of junk emails that i did not receive in the prior system
Mediacom has done a disservice to its customers |
|
 | Yep! I hope that those who can, will drop Mediacom and go somewhere else. In my case...I am screwed because that is all that is available in my town. Can you say "monopoly?" So, let's see...we've been without properly working e-mail for 3 days now, Mediacom says they need another 2 days to "hopefully" be up and running correctly. HHHmmmmm.....five F#*#ing days to make a changeover that should not have even been noticed if done properly, ie beta testing within system and backups. Not accepting any phone calls to tech support.
There is absolutely no excuse for this! If Mediacom is any kind of decent company..."which I question"..., they should compensate ALL customers for this massive "F*@$-up!!! I am sorry, but for as much as I have to pay for their service...I am going to bitch about this until they get it right. |

 | reply to wth I have a guest mchsi account (to help an mchsi friend); and I am on a 'foreign' network (not mchsi), but I have been able to configure to use both mailservers mail.mchsi.com and mail.mediacombb.net to both send and receive mail. This is most easily accomplished by sending mail from an mchsi account TO an mchsi account.
Previously mediacom provided configuration instructions for doing that mailing from a foreign IP; but not currently.
Mediacom's mailserver is having problems with outgoing mail delivery. Earthlink's server rejected mail from the mediacom server. I have sent mail to a gmail account which has been neither received nor returned/bounced after quite some hours.
As has been noted, there is also a certificate problem for the mailserver.
Mediacom's mailserver is also configured noncompliantly. In mail which I have received with the mediacom account, the server did not stamp the headers with the sending IP. It also didn't stamp the headers with the (correct) IP of the mailserver (eg mail.mchsi.com or mail.mediacombb.net) which handled the mail, but that configuration is common in mailservers - to configure some other MTA in the mail handling to stamp the line instead of the server handling the smtp transaction from the client.
However, not stamping the client's IP is a bad idea. Google's webmail doesn't stamp the client's IP, but all of the smtp server's I know besides mchsi's do stamp that source IP -- including gmail's smtp server when webmail isn't used. |
