jmorlanHmm... That's funny.Premium,MVM join:2001-02-05 Pacifica, CA kudos:4 | [AT&T] Cell service down in Pacifica, CA My wife just bought a new iPhone and when she got home there was no service. She called the store and they asked her to come back to get an updated SIM card. Back home there was still no service. Then I checked my cell phone and my son's phone. No service, no bars, nothing.
After going through voicemail hell, I finally spoke to tech support who advised me to update the SIM card on my phone. The CSR didn't seem to want to hear that none of the phones at my house, two of which were working fine until yesterday had no service at all. She kept talking about other things and would not stop to listen.
Finally she admitted that the tower that serves our area is "impaired" but had no ETA for a fix.
Is there a better phone number or a web site that has information on "impaired" towers. My wife cannot even set up voice mail and is not happy about it at all. She transferred her T-Mobile number to the iPhone and now none of her friends and relatives can reach her. -- This is not a rehearsal. |

| Go to the store and sit there to program the phone. At least she can get voice mail then. And if/when the tower is fixed, then she can pick up the vm. -- Some people are like slinkies - not really good for much. But they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs. |

 | reply to jmorlan Minds been down here in Pacifica since friday. They told me the same exact thing. Im sure they are getting alot of complaints right now. I work in the city and my phone works fine there, its just around Ptown |

But right now, we have three very expensive paper weights. Still no signal here. This is day three. -- This is not a rehearsal. |

Just now I spotted an AT&T truck on the street and asked the guy about our cell outage. His reply, "Yeah, my phone doesn't work either. I can't even call my customer." He was a land-line tech. -- This is not a rehearsal. |

gdm is right - make sure you get credit. Three days is an awful long time. |

 | reply to jmorlan There is a single tower in Pacifica on Montara Peak. It serves all of Pacifica on the coast side of the hills, and half moon bay. It is down and AT&T doesn't work on weekends so they are in no rush to fix it. I'm sure it will take a few days to fix. I often must work with them in my business (radio) and I am not pleased with the way they prioritize. They have put me in more than a few tight situations because of that. Sorry that affects all of you! |

How did you find out about this outage? All I was able to find out over the phone was that one of their towers had "some degradation" but that I should have service. -- This is not a rehearsal. |

 | reply to jmorlan I work with the FCC quite a bit at my station and all AT&T tower are registered with them. They get all updates per licensing. |

jmorlanHmm... That's funny.Premium,MVM join:2001-02-05 Pacifica, CA kudos:4 | Service is still down. This is day five now.
Yesterday I got a text message from AT&T asking me to take a survey about the quality of service I got on my last support telephone call. On a scale of 1 to 5, how happy are you with....where 1 is completely unsatisfied and 5 is completely satisfied.
Guess how I replied to that?
They also asked if I wanted to have a supervisor call me. I said "yes" and gave them my home number. That was yesterday and I have not received a call back from a supervisor or anybody at else AT&T. I think I know why.
The weather has been fine here for the last two days. There is no excuse for this. Maybe because we are in a lightly populated area, they think we are not a priority.
If it wasn't for the iPhone we'd be signing up with Verizon today. -- This is not a rehearsal. |

 | reply to jmorlan Just talked to customer service for the 5th time, once per day. This time after I told them that there was a cell tower out on Montero Mt. they looked it up and said,( this is no lie) "the road to the cell site is closed"???? I wil call again tomorrow and bug someone else and see what the Excuse De Jour is. |

 | My wife and I last talked from Linda Mar valley at 8AM on Friday 12/11 I have called ATT several times their eta for repair was today Tuesday 12/15 at 16:00 hours. That was a load of cra*, also. Service is still down Tuesday as of 7:30PM. I had a similar problem with our Nextel cell in Linda Mar that was fixed 24 hours after the call as promised. ATT network is so reliable they have no protocal for repairing it. Like driving up a dirt road and hitting the reset button? (sign me) Frustrated! |

 | reply to jmorlan Glad to know I am not the only one here in Pacifica having issues. I also called them Friday morning and they told me it would be fixed by Saturday morning around 8:30 am. I called them Saturday night when I still didn't have service and the said that the "first issue was fixed, but that now there is a new issue regarding power to the cell tower and it would be fixed by 9:30 pm Monday evening"
Well, it's Tuesday night / Wed morning and of course it still isn't fixed. This sucks as I am self employed and really need my cell phone to do business. I live back near Terra Nova H.S. and have no service there, but it seems OK down near the 1. |

jmorlanHmm... That's funny.Premium,MVM join:2001-02-05 Pacifica, CA kudos:4 | Last night as I headed out to work, on Linda Mar just past Luigi's I got service and and my phone detected a message. The message was from AT&T responding to my negative survey response and giving me a number to call back. I told them to call my land-line because I have no service. The message said I should call 611 on my cell.
They really don't get it!!!!!
In my case I'm not under contract, I've got a "go-phone" with about $90 left on it. What do you think the chances are I can cancel service and get my $90 back?
Not much I'm thinking.
My wife bought a brand new iPhone on Friday. It has never worked at our house. She can return it for a $20 restocking fee. What do you think the chances are they will waive the restocking fee? -- This is not a rehearsal. |

 | reply to jmorlan I live in Pacifica also and my cell phone has been out since last Friday. I just got off the phone with ATT and they informed me that the problem probably won't be fixed until Dec. 21st. They credited my bill for a month of service. If more people call demanding a credit then maybe they will get the problem resolved sooner. |
|
 | By the way...don't bother calling customer service. They are not helpful at all. I was told by them that they had no record of any reception problems in my area. Instead contact the technical support dept. directly at 1-877-998-5175. They were informed and very helpful in crediting my account. |

 | reply to jmorlan *JUST* got off the phone with the AT&T rep (he's in Florida). Gave us (business plan cell phone) a whopping $87.41 credit. Though it took over a half an hour of arguing with him that the tower in Pacifica was down and affecting loads of people. He kept insisting that there should be service and that he could find no reference that there had been any complaints. I literally had to read to him directly from the above posts to convince him that he was WRONG!!! So thank you all for making my case easier! I left the conversation feeling that he still wasn't convinced there was no service. Hopefully the issue will be resolved before the 21st! |
