Re: Senate Commerce Chairman Introduces Bill To Apply Universal

I still don't understand USF. Who exactly is it helping? I want names, places, articles etc... How come such a great thing is not made famous on who exactly it's helping?
I just know my phone bills have it because phone companies don't want to really contribute so they pass it own to us.

It is supposed to fund telephone service to the sticks.
It is supposed to fund telephone/data services for schools
And it is supposed to provide free cell phones and service to poor people.

The free cell service is the only thing we've seen any proof of.

POTS service pretty much is ubiquitous, although in highly rural areas, that's often all that is available.

Schools, I'm not so sure about.  While schools do tend to have fast Internet a lot of the time, I always thought that was financed through the school district's budget.  I don't know how much in USF funds the school districts get, if any.

Wait a min weren't the schools suppose to get wired with fast internet from when Clinton was president. That was a big joke too because I had someone tell me that yea they (meaning Verizon) was told to wire the schools but there was no provision in the funding to connect it to the actual internet.

Nobody. It is just like any other tax, almost all the money collected is wasted.
