shipping everclear across state linesJust had a question on the legality of this. Short story, my friend lives in a state which prohibits the sale of everclear and I live in a state that sells it. Is it legal for me to "send" him a bottle or two either by usps or fedex? Thanks for your replies. |

I don't know why they would check your package from state to state, so it should be no problem since you are sending it as a gift.
The law prohibits sales, not gifts.
Washington is the most screwed up state when it comes to liquor. I was there visiting and wanted to go to the liquor store after dinner on a friday and I find that they are all closed. They have nothing open in the evening, it makes no sense. |

Yes it's technically illegal but what are they going to do? They can't do anything to the recipient or else people would ship everclear to their enemies. What's that state where 1) the state has a monopoly on liquor sales and 2) it is illegal for example to drive from another state with a bottle of fine wine that is not sold in that state? |

Pack it well and ship it via priority mail. USPS needs a court order to open priority mail packages so have at it! |

Ahh...thank you! No wonder I have never heard of it...illegal here in Hawaii. That's sort of surprising since liquor, beer and wine are sold in grocery stores, drug stores, etc. until 11PM or so 7 days a week. I thought Ohio very strange when I lived there years ago what with liquor being sold only in state liquor locations and you had to choose what you wanted by looking a a display behind locked glass cabinets and write down the number of the specific bottle and then pay the cashier who then brought the bottle out. Very few locations and short hours. |

Ohio's changed quite a bit since then. 40 proof can be had at your local grocery store and liquor stores have popped up everywhere that will sell you anything you want on open shelves late at night. |

Very few locations and short hours. theres 2 versions of everclear 151 proof and 190 proof the 190 is 95% alchohol, about as close to moonshine as you can legally get, probably not legal in many states for that reason it's truly a terrible drink, many people will puke from 1 shot, it literally is just strait burning going down, while you can take it without a chaser, i wouldn't suggest it as even with a chaser it's very rough on a good note, 1-2 shots will have you feeling quite good one party my friend made wop(fruit punch+fruit+alcohol) except with the 190..........lots of puking at that party, lots of passing out..........even i was having trouble eating the fruit because it was so strong :P |

Everclear 190 is legally sold in some military stores within the continental United States. I guess we are out of luck up here. |

My dads wife uses Everclear when she makes homemade Khalua - she does a 50\50 mix with water then uses it in the recipe.
Her dentist would get her some when he went to Nevada and she lived in Ca. |

I have fond memories with the 190 proof didn't realize it was illegal here, but that explains why I haven't seen it. It smells like rubbing alcohol when you open the bottle. I smuggled a couple of bottles when I came home from the military, but that was years ago. |

Just my 2 cents here...
Very bad idea to send anything illegal via US Mail.
Federal crime...
Oh yeah, and here you are on a public forum, getting advice to commit said crime... Yikes?
Good luck. |
